Veggies for new chicks

I just got 12 chicks and was curious how long I have to wait to throw in a bit of lettuce for them to pick at?

I usually wait four weeks since any threat replace the high protein food they need to grow. My chicks like chard and spinach thinnings from the garden and (freeze dried) meal worms Although thy shouldn't need grit to digest soft food I start tossing some grit into the chick box as soon as I give then anything but grower feed.


What breeds did you get?
