THANK YOU.
I teach high school and the blatant disrespect I have had to tolerate is beyond my threshold at times. I am a good, kind, decent, giving person trying to do my job, and I am smart as a whip. It may seem arrogant to say that but I am very bright and I am not going to dumb myself down or sell myself out for the minority of students that I teach that have been conditioned to disrespect the institution of education.
Ironically the minority of students and their families that have the most negative things to say to me, including bashing me for driving an old car I can barely afford to upkeep, are the ones that suck me dry emotionally and financially. They have been raised to slum it and think the world owes them one because life is so unfair.
I was homeschooled for several years because the schools surrounding me were so bad the cops had to patrol the grounds 24/7. I was also a public high school student later on in my academic career, and that school was one of the best in the country, ironically enough. To me, the problem is there is no national standard for education.
