Vent Gleet and Worms

Pics
Mixture of Scratch and Peck and Purina Organic plus grit and oyster shells.
Are both of those feeds a whole grain type feed or a crumble or pelleted feed?

If whole grain this could be an issue because it gives the birds the option to pick and choose which seeds/peices they want to eat or not eat and that causes an unbalanced diet which in turn causes stuff like you are seeing.
Not getting a balanced diet can lead to overweightness which them makes the birds much more susceptible to these issues.

Do you feed scraps, scratch, mealworms or any treats too?

Feed is not the only contributing factor...it's just the most common.

Well this is good to know. Scratch

Well this is good to know. Scratch and Peck is a whole grain, the Purina is a pellet. They do get scraps and meal worms. My husband spoils them terribly. We've also had a sudden rise in temperature which was my first thought.

I thought I'd provide another update on my hen since it's good news. This morning she's drinking normally and she wolfed down some leftover eggs from my breakfast. She's not out of the woods yet because she still has some eggs bits or whatever the stuff is stuck inside her. I'm going to see if the feed store will sell me antibiotics without a prescription and I'll continue warm baths and irrigation to try to flush out the remaining bits and Vetericyn because that seems to be helping to keep the maggots from forming. Or maybe is keeping the flies away altogether. We'll see how she goes.

View attachment 3140210According to Green Willow Homestesd and many other areas, it can. And yes I do of course know intestines are wet,
I agree 100% with KiKi she knows what she is talking about. DE is TOTALLY useless when wet. As a dust for mites is ok at best. Worms and Maggots are not the same, shame on you, maggots eat dead tissue. A regular permithrin dust is better. But Fly Strike is nasty to deal with. But she will save her bird. Lots of baths and use Vermectin for the wound. If you need more info read books from Chicken Chick she is the best I have seen. I have not been on this site for a while, it reminded of all the misinformation you get on social media! But I will tell you this, when you have been around poultry for 64 yrs, and have 55, you learn. Chicken Chick also has a website, it is awesome.
