Vent Gleet? UPDATED* fecal test indicates tapeworms and roundworms

No one can give insight without knowing what killed her. A necropsy with lab work is the only way to know definitively what it was and then you can have a plan of action. Here are your state poultry labs. Some states are free, most are inexpensive.

. I wouldn't give Tylan or any other antibiotic if you don't know what's wrong with them. Of all the things that could be wrong, it is a small percentage that antibiotics can cure. Randomly giving antibiotics is what causes superbugs.
Wow thank you! I live 20 minutes from Rocky Ford! That is great news! I might give them a call today! I do need to give them wormer though I believe. I have not done that for any of the girls. @microchick has been giving me advice on that on a different thread! I am looking at Valbzen or WormGuard plus (which is just food grade DE and other things correct?), or SafeGuard. I had not idea this was something else to give chickens! What else am I missing?? Are there any other treatments I should be giving my girls regularly?
Since there are only 20 minutes away, dig her up and take her there... It's not too late to do a necropsy. And while you're at it, grab several piles of fresh chicken poop, place in plastic bag, take to the lab and have them test it for worm eggs. If you're going to worm properly, you really need to know if you have worms, and what worms they are. Treatment will depend on what worms are found.

If she is still there, I definitely will! At least I can take poo! We have A LOT of coyotes, so there is a good chance she is no longer there! It is important to use a broad spectrum wormer on all chickens, is that correct? That seems to be what I have found researching different threads. This seems like a routine treatment for chickens?

No need to worm if they don't have worms, and the best way to figure that out is to have routine fecals done. Chickens get many types of worms, and there are many types of drugs that can be used, but very few drugs will treat all worms. Roundworms and cecal worms are the easiest to treat, but capillary worms and gapeworms (rare in chickens) are much harder to treat, and usually require several days to treat. Find out if you have worms and what worms they are, then you can come up with a plan.

Sounds like a money saver too! Thank you so much for being by my virtual side through all of this! Couldn't have done it without you! So grateful! Do you know if younger hens are supposed to have looser stool? I have noticed the younger gals with runny stool and I didn't know if it was because they are stressed when I am around or something to be concerned with.

The majority of stools should be firm. The occasional loose one doesn't concern me, but if I see a hen with nothing but loose ones I will separate and try to diagnose. Can you post some poop pictures?

Best to call the lab and find out how to preserve a carcass for necropsy....they may euthanize also.
Usually you need to refrigerate, not sure they'd take a carcass that's been in the ground already.
Ask about fecal testing too.

Of course they prefer as fresh as possible, but i know my lab can do them even if they have not been refrigerated for a day or two.

I will take some at lunchtime and call the lab around then also!

I got the stool to the lab! Thanks CSU! Now to find the culprit! Been watching the girls for 30 minutes and at least know who it's not! At least it's a beautiful spring like evening!
