Ventilation/Vents Placement

Okay, so I'm only finding 4' hardware cloth & that's not nearing high enough. So, we'll get the HC 1/2" for the vents & windows etc... And an electric fence for outside the chicken wire fence. Is there a place you'd all recommend getting the electric fence? We'd rather buy an electric fence than make one.

Thanks so much!
I think most people use either Premier One or Kencove. Both have excellent customer service and will help you figure out how to get set up.

I am far from being an expert but I would say I am thankful for my decision to have big roof over-hangs pretty much every day.
The over-hang makes it easier to have soffit venting and it keeps the elements away all year round (sun, snow, rain don't go right in the coop or run).
I also like that the over-hang drips water away from the structure reducing flooding and risk of rot, and it allowed me to hang a gutter to collect rain water, which is what I give the chickens in their waterer.
I guess you can tell I am a fan of an overhang so would definitely extend the roof on yours to get those benefits!
Think I'm going to go with an overhang and add some open portions and just cover with HC

I can add an overhang if the gable vents will not be enough.

I forget who I've shared specific information with, but have you seen this yet? https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/repecka-illustrates-coop-ventilation.77659/

You won't regret putting in large roof overhangs. They shelter your vents, they shade the walls to keep the coop cooler, they give you a dry place to stand when you're collecting eggs or otherwise tending to the birds, etc.

We ran our hardware cloth vertically with support boards every 4 feet.

Mine came from Premier 1.

This might be a dumb question but how are you securing the brads on their edge to the other boards on the roof? that's an awesome giant coop

Thanks I forgot about hurricane ties. Did/do you guys have any issues with load bearing while using the hurricane ties? I was going to add some plywood for the roof along with some roofing panels but want to make sur the boards don't tip over or bend the ties.

No, we didn't. One of the advantages of metal roofing -- besides being easy to install -- is that it's lightweight.

DH may have "toenailed" the boards first (except that he always uses screws rather than nails).

hmmm I has planning on putting down some plywood then metal panels on top wonder if that would be overkill. I live where it snows so wanted to have some layers of insulation to protect from the elements
