Ok, here is a quick background...we moved to our home 5 years ago. We only have one neighbor, the surrounding area is woods and a road. Thinking that the girls would get along with our girl, the house was somewhat private, a decent sized yard for our dogs etc...we jumped on the purchase. Now, there are many, many times that we wish we didn't! Our neighbor has blamed us for them having to put up a fence to keep THEIR dog out of our yard (1 of ours was always tied (puppy then) and the other was amazing at staying in the boundaries (I believe because he was raised with an underground wired fence). Within the first year, she began complaining about a tree in our yard, that the branch was beginning to come close to her roof. Ok, fine-we just got the whole thing taken down. Then we got another dog (I love animals!) and the day we brought him home, their dog charged the fence at him and ever since then that is what they both do when they see each other. Now mine is tied and hers is not. As soon as this occurs, I get Titans leash and purposely walk him back and forth by the fence while correcting his behaviour toward her. Unfortunately, all the neighbors do is come get their dog and walk away with her so I don't get much opportunity to train Titan like I want which drives me nuts that I'm attempting to control my dog but they are not!
Moving on...we now have chickens. Our coop is built under our deck due to space and convenience. The run is 8ft from the deck toward their house direction (still about 75ft from their house). Now she tells me "I never thought in the 15yrs that I have lived here that I would live next to someone with chickens and 3 dogs" then she proceeds to tell me that her dog likes to chase birds and other little animals and she just hopes she doesn't jump the fence to go after our chickens. I immediately said about how one of our dogs has to be tied when out because he likes to greet people walking on the road (hinting that we took action!)
Why are we at fault because they can't control THEIR dog!!!! We are still finishing up our run and at this time, anything can jump in...I know my dogs won't and I haven't seen wildlife in our yard in the last 3-4 years because of our dogs, so I am not concerned about daytime "predators" other than my neighbors dog!
Wow, that was a long vent...thanks for listening!!!
