And while we're questioning things,why not white eggs? Leghorns are super layers...

Maybe because hybrids burn out early after laying a bunch of eggs over the short run.

Looks like all the usual suspects (for best layers) have been mentioned. I think one reason there isn't a definitive answer is that everyone doesn't have the same idea on what makes the best layers. Is it high production? Large eggs? Laying early in life? Feed to egg conversion? Does personality or attractiveness factor in at all?

But regardless, you won't go wrong with any of the breeds mentioned, and especially the ones mentioned multiple times.

I have: PBR, BA, Buck Eye, SLW, CW, Dominique, and a few back yard mix. Of all these, I would have to give my gold star to the PBR. Their eggs are huge, and frequent.
