Very dumb question...how do I use a slow cooker?

Here is a blogsite where they did a recipe a day in slowcookers for the whole year of 2008. What I used to do when I was working is make a meal one evening plus prepare the one for the crockpot at the same time (in some of them you prebrown the meat) then refrigerate the crock (mine was removable ). In the morning I would take it out turn it on and have supper ready when I came home.

One of the best roasts I ever made was some cheap clearance cut of meat, with a lot of marbling, that I browned and put in the crockpot on a bed of two or three onions all sliced up. I added some sliced mushrooms and carrots, a little garlic and maybe a bay leaf, and left it on all night. I purposely didn't add any fluid . . . the juices of the onions and mushrooms were the only moisture. I may have added a little red wine toward the end. Anyway it was yummy! I love my crock pot. Wish I could use it more.
