VERY important relevant SWINE FLU information. PLEASE listen.

My son just got over the swine flu. I'm hoping that now we've all been exposed to it so we should be fine with the next mutation.

He was very sick! I had to spoon feed him and hold his water bottle and help him walk and bathe him. He's 18. (He wore gym shorts in the bathtub.)

Was he tested and determined to have swine flu?

And if you didn't get it when he had it, are you now immune or susceptible to the next go-round?

This sounds EXACTLY like what I was sick with. I never got tested but I am assuming it had to be something new and different. Believe me, I didn't really expect to live. And I didn't have anyone to take care of me. I just made the kids take care of themselves for almost a month. I couldn't have taken myself to the hospital anyway. If it WAS H1N1 then it is hell whether you believe the media hype or not!

For the first time I agree with CNN... something must be wrong with me. I AM NOT A " FEAR MONGER"

1. It's not like any other flu or cold. Don't let anyone tell you different. It is H1N1 and if it mutates just right it can be a huge killer.

2. If it mutates (and they expect that it will) it will be MUCH WORSE than the 1918 flu! We didn't have airplanes jetting around the world then.

3. I can gather from some of the responses here that there is just as much ignorance about it now as there was back then.

4. My grandfather told me stories about the flu in 1918 (He was born in 1888) and was 30 at the time. The ones that weren't affected didn't go out into public and basically lived on what they had at home. How long could you live on what you have stored in your home? What if your city or town were quarantined?

5. I have a good friend who works for the AZ Dept of Health and has stewardship over infectious diseases for AZ. She is looking at what is going on in South America and I can tell you, the CDC is truly running scared. It's not hype and it's not a joke.

How many face masks do you and your family own? Tried buying them lately? I HAVE! They are running at a premium now due to the way this flu is spreading in Argentina!

And as Carolina wrote... those who were lucky enough to get exposed the first go round will have a heightened immunity with the deadly version. Tamiflu won't help much and the goverment knows it.

AND don't believe it just goes after the young, elderly or infirm... it will kill people in their prime.

ETA: My family and I will NOT be getting the 'trial' vaccine.

EVERYONE should follow some basic rules, which work to cover swine flu, job loss, snowed-in, etc.

1. Keep 3 months worth of food (minimum) tucked away in your house, not the garage, and store only the foods your family routinely uses, just lots of it. Use it and replace it constantly. Spend an extra $10 each payday adding extras to the stash, taking advantage of sales if possible. Include 'sick foods' like Gatorade, chicken soup, crackers, etc.

2. Keep your fingers out of your eyes, nose, and mouth, and teach your kids to do the same. Wash hands frequently.

There are lots of other things, like water storage, emergency first aid / med supply, other things. But the two I listed are super easy to do and there is nobody that shouldn't be doing them.

I believe that having been exposed to the 4 people at work that caught it (2 tested and confirmed, same symptoms) and not catching it myself, I am better protected? I am not touching that vaccine either.

Do you see food storage here?

Pull away the couch...

I made this with six 2 by 4's. I use boxes of foods as supports.

This supply has saved my butt many times, as long as I keep replenishing it. When my 3 kids and I all had the stomach flu just before Christmas, the only thing we didn't have here was Gatorade. This stash just made life so much easier.

Please make one for yourself while you're able.
