EVERYONE should follow some basic rules, which work to cover swine flu, job loss, snowed-in, etc.
1. Keep 3 months worth of food (minimum) tucked away in your house, not the garage, and store only the foods your family routinely uses, just lots of it. Use it and replace it constantly. Spend an extra $10 each payday adding extras to the stash, taking advantage of sales if possible. Include 'sick foods' like Gatorade, chicken soup, crackers, etc.
2. Keep your fingers out of your eyes, nose, and mouth, and teach your kids to do the same. Wash hands frequently.
There are lots of other things, like water storage, emergency first aid / med supply, other things. But the two I listed are super easy to do and there is nobody that shouldn't be doing them.
