Very mad. Need an answer - PHEASANTS KILLED A CAT!!!

I brought the dead cat to her yard with a note saying the following: "You were warned" Also I requested the $12 for the pheasant ( My selling price ) and money for antibiotics for joey.

Then her husband come to my house, and apologize and say I had every right to shoot it. He said he hated the cats and thanked me. He told me to kill them if they hurt any birds.

Am I the only one that considers cats to be working animals? When I have cats I expect them to hunt. That's their job. To keep the area rodent free, which they can't do if I have them locked up. And while I don't disagree with giveng the cat that was after your chickens a pop with a paintball gun , I guess that I would have expected the neighborhood cats to do as much if they could.

Here is an idea. The cat is just doing what is natural, but you do have the right to protect your chickens. Set a trap, catch the cat and take it to the local pound.

Well now I only read the first and a few of the others and the last.
We as cat owners have to do our best to keep them safe. I own cats and I say if my cat gets at your chickens that's on me.
We as chicken owners have to do our best to keep them safe. Sometimes that means going the extra mile to see that cats can't get to them. That's on us.
Some times that means after doing our best to keep them safe chickens end up going to the chicken coop in the sky.
Some times that means after doing our best to keep them safe cats end up going to the litter box in the sky.
You do what your conscience will allow and hope for the best.

Sorry you had to do that, but I am glad it turned out okay with the cat's family. Now to find where your set-up is not predator proof.

Just last night I had a neighbor say to me, "If my dog comes around and bothers the chickens, shoot him. I won't be mad." My response was, "Don't make me shoot your dog. If you don't care enough to fence him in, shoot him yourself. If you make me shoot him, I will be mad."

If I have to shoot his dog, he will have a fine from the county as well as a dead dog.
