I agree. I have several cats and love every one of them. This lady clearly didn't care about her cat or she would have done something to protect it just like the poster had to protect his animals. He gave her fair warning and she was rude to him. He did what he had to do as clearly stated in his previous posts.

Thanks guys. If some of you think what I did was wrong, then so be it. But im not about to sit around while this cat is attacking my Birds. Like I said before I have over $600 bucks of pheasants alone. Not to mention the quail. The lady was warned several times, and I told her what was going to happen, so when the time came I had to do what I had to do. I did not get pleasure out of shooting the cat. Infact it mad me very upset that It had to come to that.

So to all that think I was wrong for killing the cat, Please read all the posts and put yourself in my shoes.

Bryan,

I think what you did showed patience, understanding and even more patience for the owners of the cats. I read through all of your posts because I do not have the time to read all of everyone else's back and forth comments but I think that you did what you had to do in order to protect your birds.

It is never easy to nix someone's pet but you did warn them over and over, and you gave them chances to fix their problem.

You did it the right way instead of just shooting and asking questions later.

Man...if one of my dogs got out and returned with paintball splotches all over it and was accompanied by a voice message saying "I shot your dog with a paintball gun because it was chasing my chickens," I'd consider myself to be the luckiest guy in the world!

One of our border collies escaped and was gone for 62 hours, but after about three or four hours of driving around yelling and hollering to no avail...I figured she was already dead. That's just how it is out here.. When she finally came home, I was shocked. No idea where she went nor what she got up to while she was gone, but to this day I consider it almost unthinkable that someone didn't blow her to smithereens in the meantime.

To the OP...I think you did more than you had to by paintballing the cat to begin with. I think you did more than you had to by giving the cat's owner warnings, too.. I mean, seriously...that lady practically made you shoot her cat.

This is on her...not you.

I am a major cat lover (i have 6..ALL inside cats) and i say that you did what you had to do. You warned the lady...so REALLY the cats death is on HER NOT YOU! Sorry about your bird.

I have only one cat. He lives with my chicks in the house; outside he has access to young (5 weeks) and old chickens, and any number of things could go horribly wrong. He is reliable with them, and thankfully, I'm the only one in the neighborhood with livestock. If someone else was to shoot my cat in fear for themselves or their property, I'd be very angry and upset and sad, because I think my cat wouldn't hurt a flea. But I know that things change and under the right circumstances, my cat is still a carnivorus predator.
Given that knowledge, I'd want to know what happened to my cat! I'd prefer to have him dropped off in the yard with a note rather than SSS. I also know that if I was given a warning with paintball splotches on my cat, a phone call and then more warnings, I'd keep the stupid cat inside until I figured out a better solution to contain him!!!
I also know that the posters on this thread are right, cat's don't have "boundaries" that we want them to have... I'm gonna try the shock collar (in ground fence) method so maybe his furry butt will stay on our property!

I would just like to say that while all of my animals are in secure pens, if I want to let MY chickens free range in MY yard I'm gonna do it. If someone elses "pet" comes into my yard and threatens what is MINE I'm gonna shoot it with MY .22 Cudos to the OP you went above and beyond with all the warnings you gave first. It was more than I would have done. My view may seem cold to some, but I am not rich. I depend on my livestock and can't afford to replace them just because some careless person doesn't take care of their animals. It wouldn't be the first time I have shot someone elses dogs and probably won't be the last. If you love it that much, keep it on your property....I do.

I understand that killing someone's pet can be upsetting, but rest assured you did what needed to be done. The owner was warned several times, and it killed one of your animals that were in it's cage/pen/whatever. It is obvious it wasn't going to stop since it has been after them for sometime. Just take a deep breath. I hope I have the courage to do what you did if the time ever comes. I have a paintball gun loaded, but I do have a real gun for back up, if the warning doesn't work or if it is already in the process of killing.
