Yep one minute I will go out and snap one, her crop is full but squishy, she is lethargic but only to the point of she was not runing to get treats, was sitting around with feathers puffy and was not bright eyed like normal. She did not make it easy for me to chase her once I got the crate set up BRB
To check weight, weigh yourself on the bathroom scale. Then hold the chicken and subtract your original weight. Best if you have a digital scale instead of one with a dial.
Here's the deal... If you can't take her to a vet then what she really needs is to be in a warm cage or room, not outside. So many things can cause a a slow crop, so it's kind of hard to suggest a treatment. A fresh poop picture will be very helpful.
Trying to upload the photo but terrible internet out here, I can not bring her into the house b/c I cant be certain she wont contaminate my parrot, I have her in a dog crate in the coop think I should add a heat lamp?
Thanks for all the time you took to help me today with my hen. I got the wormer and tried to give it to her oraly but the syringe they had at the feed store is really to big I certainly hope I did not aspirate her. Will call the vet tomorrow and see if they can give me the smaller syringes!
but I'm freaking out and having a hard time absorbing the directions... if your willing I could use some direct guidence...
She has been in her crate all afternoon with just water, I will check her crop in the morning to see if it was emptied. Hopefully it is but I'm suspecting it wont be... it was not hard as a rock just slightly squishy.
She pretty much did not move from the spot she chose to sit in this afternoon.
I have a heat lamp on her crate tonight.
ps is there any way to effectively worm them without using a syring b/c that was traumatizing tonight and I'm worried I did it wrong and I cant imagine doing it to 11 more hens for 5 days in a row!
one more question and I"m going to bed. the dosing on the safeguard if I have a 5 pound chicken (did not weigh her tonight it was raining and late) so it would be 1.15ml for the dose? tonight I just did .5ml b/c I saw that multiple times on the forum as the "dose" for a reg size Hen. But it makes sense to treat each hen based on weight... Oh I"m so stressing out here, cancled my trip but need to drive my kids into the city 1.5hrs away and back for therapy from 2:45-5! and then its our sabbath and I'm limited on what I can do to help her
Hoping I wake to a really active really happy hen! (I can hope right?)
night all
