Very small chick

Top left corner is most definitely a male. He is a wheaten maran, too colorful to be a female. Big comb and he has always acted like a rooster. This is the rowdiest bunch of chicks I have ever had.

Really? I'm not familiar with the breeds. (Mine are all mixes.) At 8 weeks most of my roos with single comb are huge and they have big wattles...lol His comb just looks so small I would have bet on hen. Good I'm not putting money where my mouth is...lol

The hint that the tiny black one may be male is the OP mention of his copper neck. Pullets wouldn't be showing any copper on the neck at such a young age. That, and my magic powers!

Yup, copper on the neck. I forgot that pullets do not have that. So I definitely agree, she is a he.

Where did the eggs come from?

I got them from a backyard member in Texas. I am going to email her and see if there have been others. Just curious.

I contacted the OP of the thread with another really small chick and she said her's was alive and well. Good to hear. I also contacted the breeder I bought the eggs from and she said she has hatched more than 300 and no small ones. Incubator maybe, but I hatched 9 out of 13 winter shipped eggs. It was a great hatch. Fluke I guess.
