so the other day i talked to a guy who said that for the past 10 years he has given his pigeons one teaspoon of bleach for every gallon of water to kill anything bad in the water and in the birds themselves so i guess it also works like a wormer but i don't know if its such a good idea what do you guys think about it

I use bleach once a week to clean the water bowls - let them set and then FLUSH them thoroughtly. I do use a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with the mother per gallon of water on a routine basis.

what it does it kills the bad bactria in the birds gut which is good . but it also kills the good bactria. so really not that good it is good to disinfect waters and feeders use about table spoon per gallon to clean the n let them set out and dry

apple cider vinegar is what you add to the water, as it inhibits some of the bad bacteria at least, encourages good bacteria, and adds some vitamins ect supposedly too. seems to help my birds since using, and at very least hasnt hurt them. ive seen animals that have drank bleach before at the vet office i worked for, and its seems it isnt so helpful..

When I was in the army on my first deployment to Kurdistan the drinking water that was trucked in to us had to be treated. We added bleach to it and drank it for months. We would add a minimum of one bleach bottle cap full five gallons. Our water specialist swore by it, and we appear to all have turned out fine. I thought it tasted a lot like the water when I lived in New Orleans.

According to a person I respect, It actually does some good, not sure what exactly though! Says if you have a down looking bird give him some bleach water and you'll see him perk up. But I just use it to clean the waterers, and add ACV to the water.

maybe itd work great if you had birds with a overload of bad bacteria, that they needed to get rid of, and you could then treat also with probiotics also during and after. tap water already has some bleach and other chemicals added to try to cut down on problems that water treatment plants breed by accident.
