So either of those calcium supplements would be okay...should I split one between the two girls or give each girl their own?I believe the vet would order the implant in and the price seems to range between $100-$150 including the vets fee. The implant lasts between 3 and 6 months. At this time of year I would expect it to last about 6 months. Even with the implant there is no guarantee they will not die but it should give them a better chance and feel better in the interim period.
I'm sure either one of those calcium supplements will be fine. Crush one up and mix with peanut butter or sprinkle on scrambled eggs and hopefully they will take it willingly.
Edited to add..... don't feel obliged to go for the implant. My finances do not run to veterinary treatment for my chickens so I am not suggesting you go for this option.... just giving you as much information as possible so that you can make the best decision in your circumstances.
I am very grateful for the implant info bc it’s something I have been considering since this all became such an ordeal. Obviously their bodies need a break. And I don’t have any other way to give it to them. Best I could do would be to cover the rest of their coop/fence, but it’s already pretty shaded in there.
Edit: to answer your earlier post, the drakes are fenced separately from the girls. I have one group of 3 that I used to let run in the big yard with the hens in the morning before I let the rooster out, but I stopped when the vet mentioned infectious viruses just in case. I watched their behavior closely for several days before leaving unsupervised. The drakes paid them very little attention & gave the hens plenty of space because if they got too close my barred rock would charge at them.

And I think both girls are still moving eggs through in some form or fashion, but they just don’t ovulate as often at the moment because of heat or molt or whatever the case may be. I think the tan one (I was told she was an americauna but I may have that wrong) still moves egg parts through when they happen. I looked at the dates on my first baytril & she started that on July 24th, so she was on the baytril about 10-11 days before that lash egg moved through. Which makes me think the baytril did help. I have my vets researching salpingitis thanks to all the info you guys have given me. (Xoxo to all of you!) And I’m going to send them a text in a few minutes asking about the implants also. You guys are the best! And this forum is the only reason any of my birds have survived or thrived!!
