Hi folks,
I have tried looking through the forums, but I couldnt see an answer....... if its been asked before then Im sorry for this BUT...... I have a gorgeous RIR & Barred mix Roo, hes about 4 maybe 5 months old and came from my neighbour. He has just started working out about mating, and even as a newbie I understand chicken mating isnt very pleasant, however, this git has totally shredded one of my girls necks to a bloody mess....... so much so I wont post a pic as its horrendous. So she can heal at night we keep her in a cage in the coop so he cant attack her, and during the day the flock free range and she is then allowed into the main pen, but today, she poked her head out and went back in, she looks as though shes sleeping standing up and even though shes fairly tame, she normally is "hard to get" but right now shes easy to hold. Not only is she our fave girl but we dont want this Roo shredding the rest of our girls. We also have a pure Barred Roo of the same flock and age as the mix, but hes docile.......... Is it time to nail the gobby nasty git or are we being too protective of our hens?
TIA
Bex & Kim
