I caught this epic battle between two of my Muscovy Drakes this morning. Those are some powerful birds.

Before I had these Muscovy I never would have believed a duck could kill a chicken. Not only are they huge birds though, those claws have drawn my blood many a time.Way back when,, I had a RIR rooster who would delight in picking fights with my Muscovy drake. One day the drake had enough and killed the rooster.
I didn't even think about internal injuries or fathom they would kill each other. This is the first time I have seen anything this aggressive. Usually they just stand on each other or do aggressive butt wiggles and head bobs. Should I have broken it up?When I started with Muscovy's it was 3 drakes that came into our part of the mt River below our home. I wanted to bring them home so bad but my dh said if you want ducks go get your own, so I went and got 3 female scovy's didn't take the drakes long to find the females and they would waddle up everyday to visit. Well those 3 girls picked on of the 3 drakes as their knight in shinning armor which meant the other 2 had to lie in wait for a female to walk by then jump her. Finally I had to lock the 2 drakes out of the fenced yard, So they went back to the river and the chosen drake would go back down in late afternoon. Well one day after Ernie[named him finally] came up for the day my dh and I were driving down the driveway and saw one of the drakes on top of the other beating the tar out of him of course in a very steep area so no access from where we were, anyway when we got home I started walking down to the river to see if I could locate these 2 drakes it's very grown up with large wild rose bushes so not easy to get through but I found one of the drakes and brought him home checked him over and he was pretty beat up I put him into a large dog crate for the night next morning he was dead must have had internal injuries I was heart broken never knew ducks would kill each other.
This lone drake actually stalked Ernie so I decided to move him in for good with us. No way he could go back to the river. Any way this is my first experience with fighting drakes and will never let it get that way again If I have more than 1 Muscovy drake and I have had as many as 4 at once they all have to be kept separate from each other once mature.
Who is under the one drake? is it a female or another drake. Please don't let them kill or injure one another.
Sounds like you make a point to break up the fights. I never know if I should get involved or just leave them to work out their pecking order. I also have concerns of getting hurt myself. I was kinda scared just filming it.I have two Call Drakes..Casanova will be 5 this year and Fabio is only 6 months..Casanova if he can get a hold of Fabio, he beats him up and won't let him go..I keep them separate but occasionally one gets past me fast to fight.I can only imagine Muscovy....
I have been so focused on keeping animals out of their space to keep them safe that I never considered the possible threats they are to each other. You know you will have to decide I am not sure how often things like this happen where one drake will kill another I just know it happened here so I work to keep it from happening . I love my drakes but boy they can be fighters. Now I have to watch my gander and scovy drake they can get into some doozies too. and believe it or not my drake has been the winner.
