How old is Marshmallow? She certainly looks like a hen to me? She is the one who raised the chicks right?

Yes, she is a hen, she is 2-3 years old. But it is possible for a hen to change gender, it doesn't happen often and usually when there is no rooster.

Yes two! I am keeping her seperated though because she is molting and I hate when they jump on her with poopy/muddy feet, she's so pretty when she molts and I want her to stay that way for at least a little while.

Um. I'm not sure if my mom would let me but I have wanted to. Would you want bantam Cochins? I'll have some barred boys if mom lets me hatch in the spring.
And other non-sexed colors

I put Huckleberry and Marshmallow in the same cage together after school and he mated her. (I made sure his feet were clean ) He didn't do it very nicely and Marshmallow was terrified of him, then he wanted to do it again so I took him out.
But this is good for future chickies, I'm hoping they'll warm up to each other.

Cool. I try to hatch I between January and April so they are the right age for the fair. The fair here says they have to be born the same year as the fair you show them in if you want to show in breeding, so I only took one chicken to the fair last year, Huckleberry and the others were too young.

Marshmallow didn't crow this morning, but then, I wasn't in the coop very long cuz I was late for the bus. Huckleberry was shivering this morning. I'll put a heat lamp in the coop when we get back from iowa

She gets along fine with Pumpkin but he is not a Cochin and I want her to have purebred babies. I am just waiting for her and Huckleberry to warm up to each other. Before she was the boss and would chase him around and pick on him. Now since the fight he picks on her and mates her. So we're making progress just wish he was nicer. He's still young.

Oh I see. With age he will probably mellow down.
