Virginia

Wow. Next to no one is here at the TSC in Martinsville.
A woman was just at my booth and I am only selling pairs of Cochin Bantams. She wants production white or red pullets. She needed at least a dozen. No one here to sell her a dozen female chicks, pullets or hens. Too bad, bc a woman was here the first two hours with chicks and pullets but she packed up and left due to a lack of sales.

We Heard Eden, NC had 40 different vendors last week.

Wow... That would have been nice! Is there usually a good turn out in c-burg or Roanoke? Speaking of, has anyone found a new location for the c-burg swap? It's coming up soon, right?

Heading for Eden next Saturday. 2nd Saturday of the month with a trailer load this time.

Taking a few of this and then everyone wants that or taking that and everyone wants this, does not cut it.

Just going to take a trailer load instead of loading up the SUV. Loading the SUV not as big a selection as I need to have with me. Still will only sell in pairs this coming time also. All those times I sold females, pullets & hens to neighbors.

I have a different plan. Revamp time.

Like I have lived and learned over the years. Different areas lean towards ornamental and some areas lean towards utilitarian. Taking both next week. Sweet fluffy Cochin Bantams are a hard sale in Martinsville. Was told by dozens ...The city voted out poultry of any kind within city limits and those with must get rid of. Agh!

Oh what I have learned over the years! Have I come full circle from my 4-h RIR when much younger? Yup!

1/2 of what I sell next year will be Sex linked ex. Bielefelders, blacks, reds, barred & whites.
1/4 ornametal with usefulness Calico cochin bantams & Phoenix bantams.
1/4 specialty eggers and meaters, Bresse.
And ORPINGTONS of every color. My goodness everyone asks for orpingtons or RIR's, white RI's, Barred, Australorps or Easter Egger types (which my son has) bc these types are all good for eggs and meat. And really.. No one wants to pay But 5. for a month old chick up to 25 if she is already laying and around a year old. That's cool!

Oh have I learned.

And if any of you have useful suggestions? I am open. Today was cold, damp and 4 chicken sellers and one left during the first hour and another left before the second hour ended. I personally left just after noon.

Not good to show up for a Chicken sale for a city immediately after a vote to vote All Poultry OUT of the city limits.

Haha, that sounds like my luck! I guess over time you do learn what folks are buying in different areas. The sale I brought chickens to last month really stressed some chicks so I haven't been to any since. Dh says I should put a camper shell on my truck but I don't like the looks of that. I hope to get a lavender orpington cockerel this weekend follwed by pullets later. RIR, more ROs and Silver Sebrights due to hatch Saturday...

have lavender chicks if your interested. Only two hatched out of two sets of a dozen eggs purchased and mailed. Well their parents were beautiful. They are fluffy balls right now. One may be a male and one a female. I have not looked up their skirts but one has lacy feathers.
I am going to have to take the pair to the next swap and sell them as a pair, but they will not be free.

I have a lavender orpington cockerel that I got from Heirloom Orps. I am in Upper Marlboro, MD. PM if interested. I would rather sell to someone cheap than process him. I also have a Lav Cuckoo also from them but someone else may be buying him.

for anyone interested, I'm being overrun with quail eggs, and about to set close to 100 of them! who wants/needs quail chicks? i'll make a good deal for you.

pm me if you're interested. I'm in the Roanoke/Christiansburg area (working in c'burg now).

C'burg was great. Sold some thing out of each box and even sold out on several types. When I get to go home with less boxes than I went there with...I will not complain.

I might try Roanoke.

Currently we are feeding back most eggs to our chickens. Boil and leave shell on and let cool so I can either cut them( with shell on) or smash them onto the top of their fermented feed. So I am NOT setting any eggs.
We set quail eggs not too long ago and mostly they hatched.
They shimmy through the chicken bars and run around the house bc they are in my son's bathroom.
That is not good!
It is time to move them outside.

He has collected not counting all his things with feathers, one purchased cat and 4 stray cats and 1 purchased dog and another parking lot freebie mixed breed given bc fall was here and they had 12 more pups to give away. Oh Least I not forget, 2 Sugar Gliders.

Stay away from WalMart Parking lots on
Sunday afternoon when the weather cools!

I do plan to go to Eden for the Chicken Swap there this coming Saturday.

Maybe you will come and I will see you there.
I heard it was really big the last time and I plan to take the last two Fly-Tie I have there. But then again....I might keep bc there are only a handful of people in America that raise Authentic Fly-Ties.
