Virginia

Hi All!

I'm from Charlottesville :)

I have been looking for the following breeds, Lavendar Orpington, Dominique's, Polish, Brahma, Faverolles, Ameracauna, Wyandotte variety.

I don't want to place a huge order of one breed. I would like my flock to stay under 15-20 birds so I would like some different things. If you have or know anyone with chicks or young pullets, pm me!!! :) I am willing to drive a ways for certain things lol!

Thank you!!!
I'm in Scottsville, neighbor! I don't have any of the breeds you're looking for but you can place a mixed order from a hatchery if no one responds. Also keep an eye on Craigslist. I'm not sure but they might still do a chicken swap at the TSC on Pantops once a month.

Hi, new to BYC. Just started with 3 barred rocks in Winchester, VA. Any neighbours?

Hey neighbor! Grundy here! There's a guy here who was raising the seramas. Pm me and I'll give you his name, you would have to look him up on fb.

Some of our customers have gotten 95% hatch rate on our shipped Delaware eggs- but usually its close to to 80. Some of it is handling and packing but you don't have control over USPS or the weather.
I agree. If they get x-rayed, you might as well trash them.

I have an some Phoenix and Le Bresse Hatching Eggs if anyone is interested. I had saved them for someone and it didn't pan out. They were collected over the last 4-5 days. I have about 10 gold and silver duckwing Phoenix and 7 LeBresse. We are in the early stages of our Phoenix breeding program so we weren't looking to sell eggs yet but I cant see wasting these eggs. We have excellent hatch rates here and both breeds are very robust hatchets! The Phoenix are not only beautiful, they are very calm and sweet to all the other breeds. They lay medium eggs daily. We are raising the Le Bresse for meat but found they are super layers of large eggs!
The eggs need to get incubated asap, so pick up on the Eastern Shore or I could ship today or tomorrow. $25 pick up or $40 shipped for all (PayPal). PM me if interested.

This is long,.. I bought Chicks from a woman way up North, it was quite the struggle to get this order and there is so much to the situation but I will Leave it at that. Some people love her and some people don't. I personally went from recommending her to saying, "buying from anyone on line can be problematic in today's world."

Well my order turned out to be all males and two smallest that were appx 2 weeks old never Made it to the first night here. The others were anywheres from 2 weeks to 2 months and they are ALL Roos. Let me tell you, this woman is expensive. What she promises and what she does is entirely different. I have had several dealings with her, good and bad.

Last year when I got a box of dead and dying chicks she said she would "make it up to me in next Spring's order." Next Spring(this Spring) rolled around and she prompted me and I placed an order,... what a nightmare that turned out to be. I heard so many things from her before during and after order. She states one thing BUT don't believe what you read. She will Not make it up. She is clever in her sales pitch. All orders are custom orders even if she brags they were hatching like crazy and she has them now and buyers will get extras. Things will be different On the other end of the deal! PayPal and charge cards will be told by her "it is a custom order" and she can take as long as she needs and when you get that order of Roos,??? That is not a straight Run! She claims to have been in business for decades. Not so with the chicken end but yes she was in a business for almost two decades and she changed businesses.

I order from a man from way Down South and he has never given me grief. His chicks are healthy. They come when he says they will
And he does not send older chicks
On three day trips w/o wet food And I know I will get about equal Roo to pullet ratio.

So know this, if you are not buying from a big hatchery, and you are buying expensive chicks, all orders will Be looked as CUSTOM Orders and you will not have a leg to stand on with any payment company, you get what they give you, when they give it to you and your stuck with it even if all Roos. Large hatcheries want you happy and that is how they got so big. Small operations are small operations for a reason. I happen to be doing this as a hobby in my retirement years.

The facts are, we take risks with online orders. All Online chicken Orders are CUSTOM orders and you don't have a leg to stand on.
Anyone calling themselves a Chicken business does not make Mistakes with gendering large Fowl
Chicks the first few days of their lives, mistakes can be made later on as they don't all reveal
Their gender properly BUT a business does not make that type of mistake with large Fowl!

I am not a Chicken business, I am a hobbyist and in my retirement years. I have never seen businesses nor customers The way they are in today's world and get by with it. So, there you go!

Why tell you? To let you know, online ordering has risks.
Oh, you knew that? Well last year and this year,..from what I have seen, chicken sellers and chicken buyers are WORSE than I have ever seen in my life and since I am retired that is truely saying something. You will not find me buying from online again unless it is a big business. I Will buy from another hobbyiest but in person, not on line.

I ordered Blue/gold partridge brahma chicks this week. I Actually called this women who assured me she took every precaution shipping chicks. She did not notify me chicks had shipped. I did not catch a call from post office until hrs later. 6 DEAD CHICKS..4 barely alive. Ordered cemanis from another breeder...they notified me..but same thing...chicks came in extremly dehydrated/distressed. I will never order live chicks again..EVER! I'm still working hard to keep the remaining 4 alive. I will order eggs and hatch my own for now on. I've had several hatches from shipped eggs. Not 100% hatch due to various factors...but beyter than seeing beautiful ..and expensive little chicks perish.
