I still shop at both the TSC and the pet store. Know people that work at both, and most people that work at those places are nice. In fact I'm gonna go get me some boots at the TSC here soon
I love TSC!
Not fond of Pet store at all for shutting the TSC parking lot flock swaps down.
I do not shop at the Pet store.
It is a free country and you have a right to shop anywheres you want. Just like I have a right to avoid a business that caused trouble for our Flock Swaps at our beloved TSC.
To each their own.
I also avoid Shelor for stopping the Flock Swap at TSC in Christiansburg.
We do not have fleas.
Question, and you do not have to answer it. Why would you give money to a place that complained and got the Flock Swaps at our beloved TSC Stopped? I do not shop there bc of what they did to TSC.

That sucks. Would your local ag store be willing to host a swap? Seems like a good way to meet people, not to mention extra food/equipment sales for the store.
Stores (TSC) were more than willing to host flock swaps, the problems were the owner of the property (Shelor) that TSC Christiansburg rented from said we were a flea market. I dont have fleas.
The other problem is the Pet store in Galax did not want us out at TSC parkinglot and complained resulting in shutting us down bc THEY have a pet store selling at store prices and TSC's was an inexpensive(?) animal swap and sell. Ok I saw someone bring puppies once and give them away but they didn't have papers.

I'm pretty excited. And come to think of it, the Marans pullets are my largest, but never seem to park themselves at the feeder. Time will tell what color eggs they lay.

We should have brown, blue, and (theoretically) chocolate eggs once everyone starts working. The only thing missing is white. Any recommendations?

I have two pearl white leghorns from McMurray who can't be beat as far a productivity and size (jumbo!). One is molting now and the other is going on a straight year of laying. I can only assume this is temporary and they will give out sooner than the others. I did hatch some barnyard mixes this summer and ended up with a pullet out of a leghorn egg and my SLW roo. She lays a cream colored egg, a color I did not have yet, and is super productive. I may hatch some more this spring for myself if I get a broody!

I also had some brown leghorns. They were super reliable in the egg department, but their eggs were smaller. Aside from my NH, my leg horns are the friendliest in the flock!

My son got 3 leghorns, cornish whites and several silkies at TSC Spring. The Cornish ate. They grew, our neighbor ate them bc my son could not. Pets you know. The silkies we gave away to our Pastor. The laying White leghorns laid by 20 weeks and have not stopped laying doubles. The leghorns are surprisingly small for such large eggs. Their combs are huge and flop about when they run around. Although I Know they are production hens, not much to look at and I know they will not live as long as my expensive ones BUT gosh they lay alot of eggs.

Some nice Brown Leghorns or Anconas.

I am thinking Brown Leghorns could be nice...less visible to the lovely raptors here. It will have to be from Meyer though as I only need two (I think their minimum is 3 after April 1). TSC has a minimum of 6 chicks, right? Any significant difference (color aside) between the standard white Leghorn and the other varieties?

And I have to be careful because I still need to make space/build pens for Bielefelders and Muscovies. At least I don't feel as overwhelmed as I did a few weeks ago.

I love TSC too!
Neither am I happy with them but that doesn't mean that I'm gonna throw a hissy fit like you and boycott the whole store and Shelor. You don't have fleas but maybe other people that went there do. I've been to the C-burg swap meet and there have been many people who have had animals that aren't in any condition to be sold. The reason I'd still support these companies is because they just made a statement they thought would make it better for they're own business's and in return TSC shut down they're own swap meets. And also, lots of TSC employee's really don't even enjoy the swap meets that much so they don't really care

I was not aware TSC shut down on their own, nor was I aware that any employee had voiced their opinion that they did not like the animal swaps.
The flea comment was about running a Flea market. No hissy fit thrown. Just decided to stop shopping at places that want our money but not willing to give a little. And that if they want our money why would they stop TSC from holding Animal swaps.
No, TSC never had a problem with animal swaps that I knew of. On the contrary I have seen them go out of their way to assist the animal swaps bc they know it is good for business. The only companies I knew of that has a problem was shelor looking at us as if we were running a flea market and the pet store just down from TSC not liking puppies for free. The two companies that had a problem with it, I no longer shop at. No hissy fit thrown.

Also I dont eat at a Burger place anylonger because they want our money and they dont want to pay taxes on our money they collect so they moved their Corporate Headquarters to another Country to keep from paying Taxes on money they make off of us. The way I view it is, they want our business and money, money we made and we paid our taxes on, but they dont want to pay taxes on Money they make off of us.
Public Relations.
So, The bottom line is, companies do not always look at PR until it effects their bottom line, the dollar. My boycott for better PR may not effect their bottom line but at least I know I did not contribute. No hissy fit intended. It is your right to shop whereever you want to contribute. No reason to insult others bc they choose not to shop at a place for their reasons.
I reread you posts about this matter. I think at the Swaps there are all types of people from different walks of life and that includes different social, educational and economic backgrounds. Chicken people come from everywhere. I have not seen any animals there that were in Bad condition that you spoke of at C'burg.
