Hi!! I to am from Roanoke, we are in the Monterey/Breckenridge middle school, school district! We have Buff orpingtons, a buff rock and a silver spangled hamburg! What breeds do you have??

Are the Buff Rock a purebreed or a mix? I love my Barred Rocks. I really want some Buff orpingtons, they are beautiful. Actually I haven't seen many that I don't love.

Ya know I am not sure lol I saw a post on BYC a while back that was discussing the leg color on what people thought were Buff Orps and they were really Buff rocks, well come to find out I have both lol and we did think that they were all buff orps! they were all ordered from MM last spring by a college professor and she only wanted a few and was selling off all the one she didnt want, we went to only purchase 3 buffs and our daughters begged for a "spotted" hence the lone silver spangled hamburg

I ADORE my buff orps, if I was told I could only have one breed it would certainly be them!

Matthew

Wow you sure do have a lot more than I do!

I am not sure but I think the aracauna and americana is the same chicken (mine lays blueish colored eggs) I think they are actually EE's. I truly love mine whatever they are. We ordered with my husband's boss and we got 25 and his boss got like 5 or 6. He insisted on taking his as soon as getting them in the mail so of course he picked out my chickens and we got only one of the Americana/Aracauna/EE (whatever they are). Anyways we got his 2 Silver Spangled Hamburgs roosters and his 2 Silver Spangled Hamburg hens. We had ordered 1 Delaware rooster which we named Jack) and his boss go my other 3 aracaunas. I knew they weren't mine and I took such good care of mine and gave them the right food and babied them so to speak. He wanted his back and I wouldn't let him take them because he didn't care if they had the right food and mine were healthy and lord knows what he had.

Anyways we got rid of the 2 boys of his because they were a little much with my girls and tried to take down my Jack (that was supposed to be my only rooster)

I got 4 more araucauna from our local feed store to replace the ones that boss got. So I have 5 and there are only 2 that are very friendly and will let you pick them up and hold them. I was from McMurray and the other from the feed store.

the hamburgs are a little skittish and won't let you touch them and they run away if you get near them. I think they are beautiful chickens but would not choose them if ordering new ones again. I like to have them come up to me and peck at my leg and let me pick them up and hold them. But they are not aggressive or ugly acting at all. They lay a small white egg because they are a small hen.

I really want some Buff Orphingtons but my husband says we have to much now and won't let me get any right now. I hear they are a very sweet good natured chicken. Also heard that about the Marans as well. I wish I had picked out what we got last year, but I love my chickens (friendly or not)

I liked McMurray Hatchery. I did however find after we ordered that there are other hatcheries out there that don't have a minimum order of 25.
Lisa

Actually, you have more birds than me! I just have more breeds. I only have 1 Buff Orpington left and she is not my favorite. I am not a big fan of them. Now

I never knew that I would love my girls and boy as much as I do. I am presently going to school and it is a slow process. I have 2 kids daughter is 13 and son is 10. I am doing it all backwards, but oh well. It is gonna take me some time but in the end it will be worth it.

I want after I get out of school, I want to build a huge coop (have 2 now) and that way I can have many many more chickens. I love them and they love me. They are such sweet things.

How is your silver spangled hamburg? mine are skittish. read the post to Matthews chickens on how I got these girls anyways (they weren't mine to begin with, but they are now)

Mine are just Pets. couldn't sell them, I am the kind of person that gets attached to everything rather quickly. My mother-in-law was the one who wanted to get chickens to begin with and keep them at our house. She wanted to get lots and eat them. I spoke up and said that there would be absolutely positively no killing of chickens on my land and that was before we even got them. I told her if that is why she wants them then there is no need to because I won't allow it. Well thankfully she agreed because other than a few burials they will live out their lives on our little farm and not worry about when they will be fed and when they will die.

Oh and sorry, I live on the Eastern Shore and I got my Americana/Aracauna from Parksley Livestock. just a locally owned mom and pop store in our area.

Our SSH is a ham, she isnt as friendly as the buffs but she is not aloof neither!

our SSH are probably pretty docile and aren't very friendly. They are not mean but just aloof. Pretty though!

I took at your page and saw the California white chicken. wow they are pretty. They resemble the White Leghorn (maybe a little bigger but not much) beautiful combs. My Jill is my only Leghorn and she is pretty, small and lays beautiful medium/large eggs. She was traded for my RIR rooster Jake that was to aggressive. I do wish she was a little more friendly, but she is happy and I am to.
