Visiting Rooster - what to do?

The neighbor Bantam rooster visited 5 times over 3 days until I used one of my dogs to chase him off. He didn't care if I chased him, he'd walk about 10 feet off, crow, try to come back. But when I put Ricca on a leash and walked her towards him, he RAN all the way home! He hasn't been back since, and it's been about 2 weeks.

Well, Mr Roo hasn't been back, though the neighbors did ask if I was keeping one - said they saw him on their fence. I explained that he wasn't mine and that if they felt like eating him they were welcome to try. We got a pretty good laugh out of that one. I searched throw a bunch of pictures and decided it must be a leghorn - this rooster is a lot like him except that the one coming over has a smaller comb and slighly smaller saddle feathers. My guess is he's younger. The neighbors said that he was doing the "see I'm a rocket propelled rooster" thing as well but we've now figured out his trick - the houses below are pretty much level and he runs to the peak and then flies over. So he's never having to really gain much altitude (says the man who cannot fly at all). The girls were pretty taken with him so if he shows up in the spring I might bring the alpha hen out and let her go on a date. I'm pretty sure she's an easy girl who would swoon for a dashing rooster like that, especially if he clucked sweet nothings in her ear. I can't say for sure but I'm relieve that:
A. One of my orps didn't turn out to be a roo in hen's clothing and
B. I wasn't hallucinating about phantom flying roosters.

Not that I'm claiming I don't hallucinate about other things. Just that the rooster wasn't one of them.

I agree, if the neighbors complain it's not your problem. He is not yours. My concern would be if he has any disease that he could pass to your girls and making sure he doesn't hurt them while doing his thing. I just has to re-home my 2 boys because I can't have them where I live and they were causing the girls combs to bleed. I hope it works out for you, I have a soft spot for roos!!

It's Chicken Run all over again!! You're not planning to make chicken pies anytime soon areya?

And about cat mathematics:

1 cat = -482 mice pooping in and eating your hen scratch...

The neighbors are cool now that they know that he isn't mine. I encouraged them to catch and eat him. (Don't worry - it's like encouraging an elephant to try out for the high jump - it sounds scary but it's never going to happen). I saw an ad for a whiz bang pot pie machine you build yourself from a food grade drump, a toaster and two illegal imigrants, and I have to say it sound pretty tempting but I'm not sure where I'd find a drum or a toaster. My favorite pep talk for my chickens is "You can feed me breakfast or you can feed me dinner. Your call." The orps thus far (with one exception) have always chosen the breakfast route. I'm still hoping the one will come around.
