Viva Las Vegas!

oh muck muck you can not kill your granddaugters fav. do you know how to sex chicks next springish Me and my nieces are wanting to get a few more but I dont want to buy them from a feed store so if you sell you babies i may be having to hook up with you for a few.

Thanks for the information! When your ready for eggs again be sure to holler. I plan on culling my roosters down to just one BCM and one GCM roo. That plan may get a little hiccup in the form of a granddaughter who's current favorite chicken is the big white cochin roo but we'll see.
Thanks for the offer! I'm really looking forward to trying out some of the GCM's. Right now I still have an abundance of birds myself. I'm lucky if I can get 5 eggs a day outta the whole bunch. I also have a roo that didn't get culled before the move back. This morning my brother came in all upset about being woke up by him and threatened to kill him. I was like...go ahead dude! Wanna do that today? Ha! We will see how long he holds out! Mid-November I plan on dusting and worming the group and processing the older ones. I know what you mean about other's favorites. I'm trying to work up the nerve to send one of my little sister's favorites to Camp Kenmore. The good thing is that she gets her confused with another so as long as I have one of them .... right?

Hmmm....maybe he could make sex-link chicks for you. I think both his roos are gold based so would have to be crossed with a white or silver based breed. Good idea though!

I may have a broody! Just waiting to see if she will maintain broodiness through the move from the nestbox to the carrier where I like them to brood. I may be ready for some GCM eggs very soon!

oh i had to controll my self yesterday went to feed store on boulder highway and they have amcuna chicks took all my will power not to bring home babies.

? for Vegas people can you have roosters I was out at girl scout council sat and there was a rooster crowing like the whole time I was there. In Henderson there not allowed.

talking to lady at feed store seh said living here in vegas you dont have to worry about worming your chickens and a lot of the other stuff othere states have to worry about how ever we do need to worry abourt rapped weather change such as are warm weathers and then when it drops sudden to freezing as our chickens are not used to it. I really enjoyed talking to her for quite some time and learned quite a bit from her. :)

Incorporated city says no but county .... is kind of a gray area. All I know is that I hear roosters around in my neighborhood and have for years and I'm in the county. There are some areas here on the east side that are zoned for horses and such.

I know for a fact that you DO have to worm chickens here. Not sure why she said that. Worms and mites happen regardless of where you live. I've only ever had trouble with the excessive heat not freezing. I really wouldn't worry unless your birds are molting when the real cold happens. I will sometimes give them warm oatmeal or mash and plenty of scratch is just the thing during cold weather.

Whew! I moved my broody into a pet carrier tonight. She is vicious! Now I gotta get some eggs for her. Max, do you have any to spare? I'll trade you some of mine. I know that everyone's probably getting less than stellar egg production right now due to molting and less daylight. Happily some of my older girls are finally finished and several of my young ones have started up.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, my egg situation is dismal right now. I am going to separate my GCM's this week so hopefully in a week or two I can have some pure bred rather than mutt eggs.

Understandable. I really don't care if they are pure...I just want pretty eggs and interesting looking birds! I actually like mutts cause then I don't feel bad about not breeding AND they all look different so they're easier to tell apart. What I'm trying to say is that I would be happy to get some mutt/mixed Marans eggs. Do you have any Marans hens laying right now? Like I said, I'll trade you straight across or pay you for your eggs. No problem. I'm getting about 5 eggs a day mostly from newbies.

I pm'd ke_ben to see if he has a roo in with his girls right now too. Hoping to hear from you both soon. She's been sitting for 2 wks now.

We recently got a couple of sweet adorable Black Silkie Roosters from a great lady here in Vegas (sort of). One of them scooted out of their pen when I went in to check for eggs (we keep them in a separate pen so they don't get picked on by the big chickens.

Next thing I know that "sweet" little silkie had made a beeline for the biggest rooster he could see and the fight was on!
