Cream Legbar Lavender Ameraucana Lavender Orp

Salmon Faverolle Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and Ameraucana eggs

Boo. Was totally outbid on this. Still trying.

coupedup, they're Barred Rocks.

Here's the one that *might* be a rooster. It's the only one with any pink to the comb thus far.

Oh, PLEASE be a rooster! Also hoping all the broodiness hasn't been bred out of my pullets..
ETA: the little guy was 3 weeks old yesterday.

If you already have a group of chickens that like each other, is it better to introduce younger or older NEW chickens to the group? Does it matter?

I guess it only matters if you want/need more chickens than what you have.

There will always be a pecking order, though, placement within the order is switched up on occasion. I noticed when introducing new birds, that it wasn't necessarily the one on top that would fight. More often it was those that were lower in the pecking order trying to establish dominance over the new bird.

When I first started with chickens I brought in some older hens. I wouldn't do that again, personally. I think it works better with younger for me. Please do make sure that you keep them separate for 3+ weeks to make sure the new ones are healthy. Then if all goes well there, you should allow them to just see each other during the day (maybe a cage/crate inside the run) for a few days before releasing them. I would also wait to release them in with the rest of the flock in the dead of night. It seems to be easier for everyone. Another way I've found that works for me, is to move everybody to a new location. It seems to even the playing field a bit. They are not possessive of the new place yet. Well, that is my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.

I have a bantam Cochin frizzle roo and a black silkie Ameraucana roo if anyone is interested. Both are beautiful. Free for anyone on here. I'm going to post on Craigslist in a few days.

Woohoo! I won a dozen Chocolate Ameraucana eggs! They are project eggs from Chookschick. Check out the photos on her thread about them. I'm stoked! If any one wants in on these, let me know.

I solemnly swear that I'm done buying eggs for this year. I swear!
