Nineteen weeks? NINETEEN WEEKS!

My blue Orpingtons are seven weeks old tomorrow, and I've been thinking that they'd lay when they were twelve weeks old, i.e., October.

I'll be lucky to get an egg for CHRISTMAS!

NINETEEN WEEKS?

EDIT: DUH... TALK ABOUT DUMB, CONFUSED, AND FORGETFUL! Twelve more weeks would be July, August, September (eggs first part of OCTOBER). Some day I have to learn how to count!

I have 7 hens and only 2 are laying at this time. 2 the first day and then 1 a day since then. They have no routine to their laying. Once in the morning then in late afternoon. I have another buff orp that the comb and wattles are turning bright red so just another day or so. Congrats on the first egg. Puts a warm feeling in the old gullet. John

RULE of thumb is 20 - 26 weeks weeks depending on the breed . I was also told giving them ALOT of LIGHT in the coop will make them lay sooner , NOBODY has proved that to me YET . LOL

John, congrats on your first egg. I don't blame you for being so happy and proud. I can't wait for my first egg but since my oldest are 10 weeks old i have a long time to go, but then again their combs and wattles have gotten pretty red in the last couple of days. Well wishful thinking i guess. Again congrats and i am so hungry for a good egg, LOL.

I have 3 hens that are 4 months old and they JUST starting to get their combs right now and redness . Even their FACES are getting red , and NO , not from the heat . They also keep going back and forth inside the coop during the day .

I have a FULL RUN of all Pullets , and only ones that hav e combs and or waddles , or the ones that are laying , or close to laying . USUALLY if they are as young as yours and combs and waddles are showing , HIGH CHANCES they are roosters ....

I have 5 pullets that are now 20 weeks old today! Two of them have started laying ( my gold and red sex links). About 1 week before they layed their combs got so huge and red I knew it was just about time! We have gotten 7 eggs from them in 1 week.
I forgot how small their first eggs are but they are so cute.
Now I need my other three Australorp, Delaware, and Ameracauna to follow suit. We are so anxious to see our first Ameracauna egg it is just killing us!!!!!!!!!!

It is crazy how we can get so eggcited about this stuff, but you raise a little chicky poo for all this time and the excitement really builds up I guess.
