vts office killed my sisters cat by mistake

This is still so sad....even if the cat were biting and scratching, they have no right to euthanize. Cats go crazy all the time when handled by strange people or by familiar people who want to bath/medicate/etc.

I'm glad that the lawyer is looking into things. This should never happen! I don't care if it is a state of the art facility or an old farm vet working out of his truck.

Many years ago, when I was a kid, my parents decided that it was time for our dog to be put to sleep (I did not know this until fairly recently), but had a hard time taking him in as they had had him even before they had my brother and I. So they asked out neighbor to take him in. The vet would not put him to sleep as he was not our neighbor's dog. Required my father to be there to sign off on it. This had to be 45 years ago.

In addition to filing complaints with the state licensing board, contact the media. People need to know.

Please do NOT contact PETA ... No animal person wants to be involved with those wack jobs. (they come off as wanting to help but what they want is all of us to never own any kind of animal and those who raise chickens for meat or eggs are scum to those folks.) file a complaint, talk to the newstations and papers contact the vet board. The scary thing this happens several time a year all over the country. As has been mentioned, there should have been a form to sign if that didn't happen they are .... In deep dodo. A substitute vet should be even more of a stickler for everything beening triple and quadruple checked. As for the et saying the cat scratched and clawed I'm covered in scars on my hands and arms from clients cats (and a few of my own) so that is NO excuse.

One would think that scratches from client's animals would be an assumed risk of the career.

Yep, it certainly is. I also am covered in scars from working!

Also, a good vet knows how to handle an animal! We may get scratched and bit on occasion but, it really is rare where I work since we all understand how to properly handle animals. (or in some cases not handle them)

The vet can come up with all the excuses they want to. The fact is the owner did not understand what was happening. That means the clinic did not communicate properly with that client. The vet and the clinic are at fault.

My mom had something similar happen. We had a dog that had to be taken to the vet usually once a month to get a shot for itching. We went in like usual and the vet tech brought in the shot which we thought looked like it had more in it. We just ignored it and thought maybe it was a new type of medicine.

A couple hours later my mother and father were at work and my older sister came into my room and said she thinks the dog is dying. We called the vet but didn't have a way to get him to the vet. He was a type of dog that would bite us but not my mom. So even though he was laying on his side struggling to breathe he would still growl at us if we tried to get near him.

My dad came home shortly after he passed away and buried him. My mother and me knew it was cause of an overdose on the shot but he was an older dog so we didn't take any action.

We just had a dog of similar age put down a few months before hand due to intestinal bleeding. Had 3 dogs with that problem and we realized it was from the factory behind us spraying pesticides on the grass and it running into our yard where the dogs eat it. The main thing that got us realizing that was when we looked out the window and seen the guys with the sprayers but were in white outfits with their whole head covered. Most times you usually see guys spraying with just a mouth mask and regular clothes on.

how could the cat scratch and bite them when nobody touched the cat until the gave he shot to euthenize ? the vet told someone on the phone she euthenized the cat for scratching and biting. thats what i want to know

This thread is making my heart ache. I am so, so sorry this happened.

My cat struggles sometimes with the vet and vet techs but he's a cat. He doesn't know why he had to ride in the car or why we're in a strange building with strangers. It's completely normal.

Again, I am very very sorry.

I know it is tempting to go and tell everyone and their momma about what happened...goodness knows if some idiot did that to my shihtzu heads would roll. But please be careful!! In this day and time its easy for it to get turned around on yall! That vets office will be like a ticked off hive full of bees, they will be looking for anything to make yall look bad and slander is something they will pursue you for. All they have to say is that yall hurt their profitability and yall will be sued. Im sure someones not going to agree with me, but ive seen it happen many a time. So sorry for your sisters loss!!
