vts office killed my sisters cat by mistake

I cant believe a vet will just kill your animal cause you say so....it is absurd to me and abuse. I have had this talk in other threads this is my opinion. I think it is wrong if the animal is perfectly healthy anyways.

Most reputable vets won't put down an animal just because the owner says so.. they'd at least talk to them first and possibly suggest other options. I can understand that perhaps the owner wants the animal put down because perhaps it is hyper-aggressive and refuses to respond to training (rare.. but I have seen a few instances of this and from a liability stand point, its safer to put the animal down than risk it escaping and hurting someone.)

But the point here was that neither the vet nor his/her technicians questioned why this "healthy animal" was supposeably being euthanized. Even just one of them asking the owner "Are you sure you want this cat put to sleep?" would have prevented the entire tragedy.

REPORT this to the licensing body!!!!

This should NOT happen ever! No competent veterinarian would allow something like this to happen!

Where I work there is a form to sign before any euthanizia takes place. We make sure the person understands what they are signing. We NEVER ever use the words "put to sleep" when describing euthanizia. We also never, ever use the words "put to sleep" to describe anesthetic!! ANY competent vet understands how easily the words "put to sleep' can and are misunderstood! They are taught this in first year and every year after!! I still cannot believe any vet would allow this to happen in their clinic!

I am sorry for the loss!
Same here, i have had several animals put down by the vet and it is very clear what doing and why

We had a cat a few years ago that got out and hit by a car. He sustained a broken hip from it. Took him in and the regular vet had left the clinic in the hands of their intern who was learning livestock. The intern told us it was a sprain and that he would get better with no xray even though we requested one. Took him back a week later and he had a broken hip joint that had to be removed. Thankfully he made a full recovery.
