We have alot of vultures here. I see several a day. My neighbor probably has over 100 free ranging chickens. He has never told me nor have I seen vultures attack his chickens. It's the hawks and the bald eagles that you have to worry about here. I wouldn't feel threated by vultures.

I am still stumped as to why he just went into the coop. There was nothing in there and the eggs arre in the nest boxes in the back. He could have just sat on top of the coop if he wanted eggs. Well if I see it again in my coop I do have the right to dispatch it

My experience with them.they are not after chickens or eggs they only want the dead stuff and clean up the road kill around here. we found one years ago that had been shot thru the wing we tried to help it.At first we thought hubby had found a injured turkey. we had to amputate his wing as it was gangrene and he was dying we nursed him back to health and he used to sit on the back of my hubbys chair watching tv picture that one lol! he only ate hamburg or raw chicken, he ended up staying in a tree that he could hop up too and he was right with my birds and never ever hurt them.i learned about about them thanks to the Buzz! thats what we named him anyhow he was a good boy!

We have TONS of them,never had a problem. Even in the pen they couldn't really pose a serious threat.They wouldn't be able to capture a chicken. Their feet are so weak that it takes everything just for them to walk/hop. The city has been having a problem with them in the cemetary(how fitting) for years. Game and Fish came in and put explosives out to try and drive them away. Marginal success. Now half of them live on a tree in someones yard. I don't think he'll do it again,I think maybe he was confused. But why not try a hand full of firecrackers if it happens again . Scare the b-jesus out of him anyway.

Cant use fireworks around here. Cope drive down this road every 5 minutes. I will just use a unloaded pellet gun. its much louder then a firecracker

The common turkey vulture, the red-headed one, is rarely a threat to living animals. They are almost always an exclusive scavanger. Individual birds have learned the fun of hunting.

The black headed vulture is moderately well known to hunt living animals. It is not an exclusive scavanger.

yes buzz was pretty cool to have as a pet but there instinct to protect themselfs when they feel scared or upset is to throw up:/ not a pretty site or fun to clean up either yukk we had him for about 8 months and then he just dissapeared from his favorite short tree that he could hop up to. i would never ever shoot one knowing that buzz we had lived right with my chickens but not in the coop the tree beside it and never hurt them. he was a turkey vulture not a black vulture tho.
