Waddles laid her first egg today! She laid ontop of her night waterer, of all places..! It’s surprisingly small, I felt so surprised to see it that tiny after hearing everyone rant and rave about duck eggs being notably larger than chicken eggs, this one is noticeably smaller. Is this normal with first lays? She is a Pekin.

Yay congratulations!! I had a first egg of the season once that was the size of my fingernail! Waddle's body will probably adjust and make more normal sized duck eggs soon. Though only one of my ducks lays eggs that are much bigger than chicken eggs.

If you want her to lay in a predictable location you can get dummy eggs. Put them in a pile in a corner of your coop and she'll probably lay with the dummy eggs.

UPDATE!! : Waddles laid her SECOND egg today, and it’s noticeably bigger! And on straw this time! Go, Waddles! You’re doing grrreat!
