Wahoooo!!!

WOW!! Good for Butternut! My girls were all early to mid may chicks. Just last week we got a beautiful green egg and I am sure it is from the biggest americana. Then 2 days later a brown egg, we arent sure who can claim it. We got 2 brown eggs today sooooo I really dont know whats going on in the coop! We have 8 girls, 2 americanas and the rest would be brown layers I think. Im tempted to take my coffee and chair to the coop for a day! Driving me nuts!

That is exactly what I did when my girls started laying. I have 6 Buff O's and 5 RIR's and I was getting a light brown egg and a dark brown egg at first. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out which breed laid which color egg. So I started taking my chair out to the coop to see who ran back in to lay! My first egg came from a RIR, she laid the light brown, and a Buff O laid the darker brown. I was getting 6-7 eggs a day until the cold weather, short days slowed it down to about 1-2 eggs a day, or none. I have added a light in their coop that comes on at dusk to help lengthen their days...hope it works. Mine hatched out on April 19th and have been laying since September (I think). You should be getting eggs any day from your pretty girl!

Oh how I love my lap chickens they are the best. I just came in from mine and it is freezing out there but I broke my foot in October and had surgery in November so I can't get out there as easy as I would normally so my son drives me back there on the gator and he busts the waterers ice out and feeds and I give hugs and treats. It is the best and I enjoy them so much just watching them.

Good Luck and hope eggs soon. Spring time you will want more so don't worry about getting them now. haha. Chicken math!!
