Waiting for 9/22 hatch date! I put fertile eggs under the broody hen!

I wish I could help! I have read a couple other posts about putting partially incubated eggs under broodies. Most have been successful, but have never done it with less that a week to go. Maybe if you put the eggs under her today you would be ok? I have Marans eggs under my broodies, so they, like yours, would be hard to candle. Especially since I have no candling experience.

My broody is due to have her eggs hatch on the 22nd also.

She is my first broody.

I use a streamlight ultra stinger to candle my eggs. Have to be quick about it or ill end up coking em. Im glad I gave candling a try as my hen was sitting on a bunch of donations that were making it hard for her to sit. Shes down to 9 eggs, 2 of which i think will have to be incubated the rest of the way. I just didnt have the heart to discard an egg that had obvious movement inside. I fall asleep every night now thinking of baby chicks!

One of my broodies got off the eggs today with 5 days to go. Good thing the other one is still there! How soon can you hear them start to pip? My wife thought she heard cheeping earlier today...

We had 6 eggs to start with, but one got broken in the nest. Now we have 5. I candled them at day 7 and 2 of them had lots of veins. Yesterday, I candled them at day 14, and I have no idea what I'm looking at. All of them have air bubbles, but that's about all I can tell.

I guess I'm going to move the broody out of the nesting box into her own comfy dog crate soon in case any chicks actually do hatch. I sure hope we get at least 1 on 9/23!!!

I had a dream last night that a miniature adult rhode island red hatched out of one of the eggs at only 14 days and we couldn't figure out how it had happened since it was so early. It had fuzzy feathered legs.

I'm going crazy waiting! So is my 3.5 year old son!

Im waiting until the 25 for my 2 broodys to hatch their eggs. I candeled days 3-6 but no longer know what I am looking at. They must be developing b/c I cant really see through them anymore. How soon are we gonna hear peeping? And what kind of chicken will I get if I have a bantam breed with a standard? Both my roos are bantam. I ahve a few bantam eggs under a hen too. Will they hatch sooner? Good luck to everyone on their eggs. Glad I finally found some people who are semi close to my hatch date!

I started getting the honeymoon suite ready for the baby chicks. Once the momma abandons the nest I intend to move her and the babies away from the rest of the flock. Could be ANY day now!
