Walmart feed

We eat all the eggs from our very small flock (2 French Marans) and we don't want to eat WalMart's chicken feed (via my hens' eggs) that may (or may not) contain grains or additives from overseas, particularly China, Belarus, etc. It's a personal concern, preference. We also do not purchase/eat any other food items from WalMart. Their hardcore negotiations re: price point (i.e., profit) with their suppliers have been known to 'force' suppliers to lesen the quality of their products in order to achieve a profit. We try to cut expenses in other areas of lives. But we DO buy piddle pads at WalMart. Their human incontinance pads are better made than those pet store pads and are cheaper.

I for one am a fan of Wal*Mart's marketing and to each their own. Although I don't buy feed from them, I would if they sold it here and they could beat the local mills prices. I get 18% & 16% for 7.50/50#. I get 21% for the growers for just a tad more. I can also get cracked corn and assorted grains on average around $4.50/50#

If you buy product X made by company X at a local store but walmart sells it you may help a local but you did not get a better product because you paid more. Making a separate product line with cheaper ingredients just for walmart would actually cost more over all not less.

Also grain is cheaper in the US than anywhere else in the world because of our government. Buying cheep grain from overseas an shipping it here would cost 2 to 3 times as much as local feed.

I dont like walmart ether but really? Shipping grain to the US to save money? That would be like shipping US oil to the middle east.

The US DOES import grain. We're a net exporter but we import all the major grains as well. Canada is the biggest seller to the US but we get it from all over.

If Argentine wheat is cheaper than US wheat, we sell our wheat and buy theirs. As long as the futures market stays happy all kinds of container ships travel all over the place.

In terms of the Walmart food in particular, most of it is the grain screenings and floor sweepings that go into everybody's feed, but the soybean meal in it may have come from Brazil or Argentina or similar. However, that's going to be the case no matter what brand you buy. A supplier is going to buy soybean meal at the lowest price he can get it, and if that's coming on a ship that's fine with him.

And I've been in many a Wal-mart & have never seen one that DOES have it.

From what I hear, many do. However, this must be a store by store, or regional thing.
