Wanna be's.......... rant

I cannot STAND this type of person!! Worked for YEARS in a very small office with a woman who was not only a one-upper but a one-upper-after! If somebody bought a new car she started looking at cars, when our co-worker had a house built SHE had a house built a year later! When my husband and I moved to a few acres in the country she started looking at land, my husband bought me a diamond ring for our anniversary, guess what? She bought herself a ring within the month! And on and on, all on top of the constant one upping in every single conversation and yes, all conversations turned to her and her kids etc. etc. etc.

I only wish she knew what an idiot she made of herself on a daily basis!

Okay, so you all tell me what you think of this..... I have a "friend" that does this sort of one-upping all the time. She also does something that really freaks me out to the point I don't want to be around her. The first couple times it happened, I thought it was my imagination and then my DH started seeing her do it as well. We hang out sometimes with friends (often mutual friends with this girl) and just socialize or occasionally go out to dinner or what not.

In the course of conversation, of course, people tell stories about different things that have happened to them. You know- basic, sort of conversing that friends do together about all sorts of things. This gal frequently will take someone else's story about whatever it is (sometimes even serious stuff) and retell it later on saying it happened to her! It is *so* crazy. I have never seen anyone doing anything like this before. I really think she is some sort of sociopath or something. Am I right to be freaked out by it? or is it just another type of one-upping?

CityChicker - That sounds like some type of mental disorder. She doesn't have enough in her life to talk about, so she steals other's stories. Weird.

Hmmm... what about when you say "Call of Nature" you are informed that your fellow PTA mom only pees once a day... Don't know if that counts but it sure freaked me out.

I think so too, Jaguaress... I think she has some sort of mental problem (and incidentally, I guess I shouldn't say "girl" because she is like 60 years old). The first time I really knew she had a problem was when she was telling my husband and I and another friend of ours this story about going through some old mementos and finding one of her junior high school yearbooks and how someone had written this funny sort of nasty obnoxious comment in it. I had told her that exact story about two months prior, even what it said down to the exact quote! My husband and I just looked at each other dumbfounded like, "Did she really just say that"?
