Wanna see where I got a job??!!

Oh gosh!! Thank you for sharing my joy!!! You all truly understand.

Shortcake, the Fall Festival really IS a big deal around here and I think it would be worth the trip if it's around 2 hours or so. If you think you might want some chickens, then I would suggest you come right before it closes, the beginning of Nov. I can give some away then as long as you don't wipe out all the pens. LOL Check out the news media site and judge for yourself. Last year, somebody from BYC came to pick up a lot of the chicks and said she wanted to come back in 2008 as her kids loved it. In Nov., they invite people to bring in their old halloween jack-o-lanterns to smash from a tower. There's pics on the website.

Chicken Boo, I hope you decide to bring your friends and their kids and come! You can pick out 2 or 3 chickens of your choice! But you better come before Shortcake!!

Birdlover - I guess I will be in touch with you toward the end of October. Thank you for spreading the word.

What kinds of chickens are there and how old are they?

Hi,

They only have some production reds right now but I am in the process of locating all kinds of chickens to have at the Fall Festival. They want me to bring in the most unusual looking breeds so there should be quite a "candy store". I also ordered the "Assorted bantam" selection from McMurray. You can go on their website to find out the kinds they send. Last year we got silkies, cochins, brahmas, can't remember what else. First shipment of 25 will arrive Sept. 12 so you should be able to pick out the pullets from the cockerals by the beginning of Nov. Second order arrives Oct 17. Hope to hear from you then! These guys will need to go to loving homes! Thanks!

It's great that you love your job

I would love that too. I never thought I wold LOVE taking care of chickens but I do. It doesn't even matter if they lay eggs to me. Now hubby on the other hand..that's a different story

He wants lots of eggs! But he is also the one who put in 3 weeks of work to build me my coop and now he's making me a bantam coop too

Although my hours have prob now surpassed his hours in the chicken work. It takes a lot of time to watch chicken TV!

I have SEVERAL hours in just with that alone!

Hi Birdlover - Thank you for the information. We are interested in standard egg layers. Possibly something to also add interest in the color scheme/personality of the yard. We currently have 3 australorps, and 1 each of white and banded Plymouth rock, buff orpington, and a silver and a gold laced wyandote. So, a production red would be fine. I have been admiring hens with "splash" patterns. I think they are quite beautiful. I am sure you are giving all the birds plenty of attention so that they are friendly and sweet. I get the impression that all the hens are fairly young.

Enjoy the festival.

Chicken Boo

OH wow how lucky are you! That would be my dream job. I'm near Richmond and would be interested in some of the extra game birds and rabbits.
