I found a really good deal on button quail and I was just wondering a little about them. Does anyone have any pics of their buttons or their eggs? I am mainly interested in adult pics but babies are fine too! lol

The man said that I could fit 7 of them into a 20 gallon aquarium. Is that a good size or will they be crowded?

Thanks for any responses! I am sure I have more ?'s but this is it for now!

I never recommend keeping more then pairs together as adults and for sure not 7 in a 20 gal tank they will tear each other up. I will see if I can post some pictures later.

oh sure you can pile that many in a 20 gallon tank as far as fitting them in there goes...but as far as fights and deaths...you're probably looking at some... buttons are pair-creatures unlike the coturnix they perfer to have just one mate, so when you throw more than that in the picture egos clash. Deffinatly listen to Citalk2much as well as shelley with advice when it comes to buttons as htey know their stuff

I'm gonna rock the boat a bit.

First off, I don't recommend keeping that many in a 20 gallon tank. That being said, I have 2 cages with buttons, one has 6 (2f, 4m) and the other has 7 (3f, 4m). The cages have almost as much floor space as two 10 gallon tanks, side by side. I'm not even sure they are that big. I have some problems with feather picking, mostly with my silvers, and the hens look a bit rough, but they don't fight at all. But they have all been together their whole lives, save one that was added when he was 3 months, and the rest were 6 weeks.

I'll post pics tomorrow if I don't forget, just popping in here while I'm waiting for a template to download. Still working on today's homework, as usual

I keep younger chicks together until they are 7 to 8 weeks old.
When I first started with buttons I had a hugh guinea pig cage with 5 buttons and 2 Japanese in it. They all lived happily until one day I have no clue what set them off but it was a blood bath only the buttons where involved seens the Japanese where smart enough to stay out of it. Lesson learned the hard way.
Each person has to make there own choices. In the pairs I see very little picking though it dose still happen and no blood baths.
I would like to say that of all the game birds I believe buttons are the most aggressive. Must be trying to make up for their size or something lol

Thanks for the replies!

I figured that they would be cramped in a 10 or 20 gallon tank. I guess buttons might not be right for me then because I cant hvae 10 aquariums in the house with pairs of quail in them. It just wouldnt be right for me then to have them.

How would they be if I made a long wooden tank about 10 feet long and 2 feet wide. Then I divided it up inside for pairs or trios? I am not looking to get hundreds of them, maybe 10 or 15 of them.

Thaks for your help!

I am not in a warmer area. Im in Ohio. I might be able to have them in my room. I live in the attic kinda. It is actually a nice room. It is very long. I shouldnt say that it is the attic though. I might be able to have a long pen for them along one of the walls. Would that work? My cat might mess with them though! lol

Thanks,
Cody!!
