My Coop
My Coop
I got some exciting news today.
My momma has decided to build a coop.
She already ordered coop plans...which sound like they need to go straight in to the trash can.
I'm trying to find her

Open air type coop pictures for ideas.

I am not finding pictures easily.

Do you have some pictures to share or links to some pictures?

Idea #1
Here is our open air coop/run. Any tweaks? 1/3 is roofed/walled...the other two thirds have hardware cloth on sides and top. There is a 2 foot strip of hardware cloth aproned/skirted on the ground outside of the coop for digger predators and snakes. And of course, a chicken swing that is surprisingly getting lots of use! Any suggestions or considerations? We are in South Texas, so cold will likely never be an issue. They’ve done well with recent heavy rain and stayed dry.

The nesting box lofts from the top any recommendations on latch? It’s sealed off from the chickens right now since they aren’t old enough to lay quite yet, but we need to figure out a secure latch View attachment 2172444View attachment 2172447View attachment 2172461View attachment 2172442

I have a coop for resting n laying.
I live in Florida so I put shutters on it to lock up if needed for heavy blowing rain or wind during a hurricane. I also have ground anchors and straps to secure across the roof during the hurricane. I also use heavy Isenglass (heavy gauge clear plastic) to drop down on the door and buckle it in place. (Isenglass is what we use on the boat helm to keep us dry and protected from heavy wind or rain).
Otherwise, my coops are an open concept.

Have you made a coop page for that yet? It would be a great read for all of us in the Steamy Southeast and the Gulf States where we're subject to tropical storms.
