Wanted to share my shipped eggs experience....

I agree. I think it is nice when the sellers ask what you'd like written on the pkg.

I've won auctions where the seller asked whether or not I wanted "fragile" written on the box.

I think it's especially beneficial in the event someone lives in an area where the postal workers are known to go gorilla on the fragile boxes just for the mischevious fun of it.

I always mark boxes fragile unless requested not to
Much of the sorting that goes on is done by machine, so that rough handling can't be avoided . But I have been putting "please do not allow to freeze " on boxes lately, hoping workers will not leave parcels outside. Most of them want to do the right thing, I think. Deb

Too many more botched shipping jobs and I'll switch to live chicks. I ordered ducklings, which don't come to the house, they go to the nearest office. I called them 3 days in advance, and they shouted "Hey, keep a watch for baby ducks and write it on the board!". I got a phone call an hour before they opened saying the babies were there and I better open the box there for them to see, they've been listening to them peep since their shift started. The night shift had set them in a warm office and everything when they came in. All written on the board so that they didn't get lost.

I had 10 postal workers gathered around to watch me open the box, and about 8 customers. LOL They don't get many bird orders through that location.

My current postman though... he'll nap in his truck in the afternoon, parked 3 doors down. You bet I would have banged on his window for my eggs if I saw him like that yesterday! Once I was sitting out front in nice weather, and watched him march through my flower beds. I said something about it and he just grunted and walked on. I was nice and laid out a stepping stone for him. Let me catch him walking on my Hostas and not using the stepping stone!

I've gotten badly damaged boxes marked in red all over about fragile. I've gotten perfect marked and unmarked boxes. I don't even care anymore... whatever happens happens. Let me catch that postman of mine throwing a box of eggs on the porch though!

At my old house, the postman was perfect. He waited for me to answer the door and gently handed me the box, wishing a happy hatch. I miss him! The one here is a jerk.

My post office is great. Can't say much about the USPS in general, as my last eggs took a week to get here, priority mail. Not hoping for much and they are beautiful eggs. =(

However, MY post office will call me when the eggs get in and allow me to pick them up at the loading dock at any time there's someone in the building - starting at 5:30AM. Same with chicks. I just truck over there at 530AM and they'll meet me out back with the box. I've never had a broken egg, but I get the same old 'so-so' hatch rate due to them being shipped. =(

This. It's easy to blame the person who actually hands you the box or is the last to receive it because that's who we see - but the real rough treatment is over the hundreds of miles of trucking/flying/conveyor belts.

You're one of the boxes that I had a good experience with! In fact, 2 of your babies have pipped overnight!
