Wanting creative, inexpensive Christmas gift ideas.

this is what my DH & I did last year for family...it cost maybe $5-$6 a piece. You buy those glass blocks from Home Depot (ones used for building things like windows or showers)...they cost around $4 a piece. Then a cheap string of christmas lights...I used white but you can do colored too (0urs had 10 bulbs per strand) and were maybe $1 a piece, then various ribbon. You drill a hole thru the glass then stuff the lights into the block and hot glue ribbon around it to look like a present...some of them I put marbles in to add color & texture...you can be pretty creative and they make a really pretty decoration. I will be making them again this year for my children's teachers.

Take a jar and paint it white, then put a small set of clear mini lights in it. Use a sock and tie a knot about an inch behind the toe and put on top of jar like a hat. Then paint a cute snowman face on the jar. There you have a snowman night light, or just a decoration for all winter.

Simple, cheap, pretty and nearly fool-proof:

Press fall leaves and flower petals for a few weeks. Find a vintage-looking picture frame at Goodwill. Cut cardstock to fit frame. Spritz flowers/leaves with hairspray (to seal) and arrange on cardstock and glue or tape in place. Put it in the frame and tada: handmade nature collage. I don't have a pic but my family argues about who gets the next one.

I know some people that are too lazy to pick out the pumpkin seeds when carving pumpkins and so forth. But always ask for some of mine when they know I have carved pumpkins. So I cook them up and put them in mason jars. Then I take a piece of fabric and put it under the insert of the top of the mason jar, screw on the cover and its done.
