WARNING: Cackle Hatchery

When I ordered from Cackle I opted for a heat pack and grogel. Both were in the package and the ducks were active and alert when they arrived.

That is my one and only experience ordering directly from any hatchery.

Things happen. Delays occur. It's unfortunate but it happens.
Literally millions of chicks are shipped every year. The vast majority arrive in good shape.

Personally I prefer the convenience of getting chicks from my local feed stores. Many here will add my chosen breeds to an existing order if they aren't getting what I want already.

Just saying there are options.
My local orschlens gave me an order catalog from Hoovers where they get them. Told me I could have them delivered at my home or at the store and they'd call me when came in.
I raced home and made my "wish list", then pared it WAY down and ordered my 25 chicks lol.

I ordered from Cackle for years. They always had food and the water gel in the packages. Great survival rate. Chick's took a few days to get to the west coast. I've also had orders from other hatcheries where the box was smashed and lost babies and they credited me. The problem is USPS. They overwork and overwhelm employees and took on Amazon contracts so employees work Sundays. Short staffed due to working conditions. It's happening to everyone and it's shameful. I wouldn't blame the hatchery.

This gives me hope! My first 6 chicks all arrived dead and I was really torn as to whether I should accept a replacement shipment. I am currently waiting for my chicks to arrive (hatched yesterday) and the stress is killing me. I'm hoping for the best but in the future I will only be getting chicks I can pick up straight from where they were hatched.
Did your babies make it okay? 🙏
