(WARNING: nasty photo of injury) What got her and is there any hope for recovery?

Two weeks ago today our little hen survived an attack by some sort of land predator. Thanks to you, she is still here. Today while we were at work, she managed to remove all her bandaging and peck her wound. She pecked off a lot of the top flesh on the left side. Tonight I cleaned her, creamed her, applied her gauze bandages, and wrapped her well with two vet wrap sections. I tied the ends together to be sure she couldn't get it off. What do you guys think of the wound? As you can see, the section on the right side looks different from the top of her back. Is this something I should worry about? Thank you so much for your expert advice, supportive encouragement, and kind comments. Her survival was possibly because of them.

WOW seriously that looks so good! The right side may just be a deeper wound and need longer healing..it also itches when it heals which is probly why she's picking it. Def dosnt look infected or anyhing Id worry about. It looks so good I can't even tell ya. Wow. Amazing job :)

She looks amazing. It looks like the right side is a deeper part of the wound. You are doing a great job with her and she will be forever greatful to you. Thank you for keeping us posted on her progress.

Little naked butt hen is doing fine. I'm having trouble with sending photos on my phone, but I'll use husband's phone today. Her wound seems to be doing better, but the right side of it is still the area that looks the worst. She is off the Tetracycline because the package says poultry can take it for no more than 14 days. I leave on a business trip this Thursday, and husband has already told me he cannot care for her. It grosses him out! When he holds her for me while I care for her wound, he cannot look at it and has had to sit down! Poor guy. So in my absence he will continue to serve as hen-holder, and our daughter will doctor the patient while I'm gone. Will try to post photos tonight. Thank you so much for asking about her!

Aw lol at least he's trying. I'm aure that part that's worse was just a deeper wound and hopefuly it's just healing from the inside out which will take some time. She may pick at it like we pick scabs to let it get the tissue beneath some air, I woulnt worry if she does unless it gets bad. I can't wait to see pics!! Glad she's doing great

My phone can send photos again! :) Here is lil naked butt hen (LNBH) and her wound 3 weeks and 1 day after her vicious attack. I can't believe we've had her in the house for three weeks already! I'm not sure what to make of the weird dark coloring in certain areas. Is this the wound healing itself from the inside out, dead skin, both, or something else? She's off the Tetracycline and her stools are still on the runny side but they're definitely better than they were while she was on the antibiotic. Her feathers are growing out and we'll need to trim them back again to keep them out of her wound. What expert advice do you guys (angels is what you really are!) have for helping her through this next stage of healing? Thank you for your wonderful help!

The dark just looks to me like blood. Like when you get a blood blister and its black. Eventualy her body will absorb it. I cannot believe how fast it's healing! That pink skin and the yellow look wonderfulllllllll. I didn't think it would heal so smooth! You hve done a great job caring for her. I know she thanks you

Oh wow she looks great. Are you sure that it has been 3 weeks already? It sure don't seem it. The darker spots are deeper parts of the wound and will have to heal from inside out. I wouldn't change a thing you are doing for her. Everything seems to be working great.

I do remember when I had a dog that was to this point in healing a large wound that required 30 stiches, that popped open after removing the stiches and the vet had me do wet to dry packs on him twice a day. Wet a gauze pad with saline solution and cover the wound then in 12 hours change it to another wet one. The hardest part is fuguring how to secure the pad. I guess you could use a leg from pantyhose. Just a suggestion.
