Was so mad I nearly beat my roo to death.

I don't believe in animal abuse either, but once when I took a spur 1 inch deep into my leg, I kicked the rooster across the pen. Pure self defense. Would have done it the same if it had been a racoon, a pit bull, or my brother. Wasn't my rooster or he would have gone into the freezer. Yours has had his warning. Take him out permanently if he even acts like he is going to attack. You will never be able to trust him.

I've been the route with hitting roos and never had any luck with behavior changes. A friend of mine advised that I catch the roo and hold him......snug so he can't struggle or fight and keep him restrained until he stops struggling. I hang on to them until I can set them down and they set there for just a second, waiting before they take off. I want them to know that I have TOTAL control. After that they give me a wide birth for a while. Eventually some of them (most) will start to crowd the boundary and I have to repeat the restraint thing. If I don't, for sure I'm going to get it from behind before to long, then I don't pull any punches, but I don't corner them and beat them, I only give them what they try to dish out. When they're done, I "chase" them to let them know they've been beat, but that is symbolic. My worse roo is a cuckoo marans and he is BIG, so that's the one that I have to keep an eye on. Really everybody else is fine, and if they get so bad that I can't trust them and it makes it really hard to work around the yard, they've got to go----one way or another. There are too many really nice roos out there to be bothered with a jerk.

well neither of my roos are aggressive, but the defiance were the one wants to crow early even after i get up and say enough (yes you can gently train a roo to stop crowing, as they do it to each other all the time), and the other one stops (my rosecomb likes to yell the: "get your welfare buts up!!!" crow, then he is done after a min maybe at most now). my new old english red, though crows later but louder, and starting to also do the sneaky crowing when my back is turned. i tried even biting him on the comb, but pinning and/or flipping him over and doing same (do till goes limp and can tussle him around a bit) was only working when he new i could quick and easily get him for it, so i got a black porous sock, and hooded him last time... now quiet as a sleeping baby! on another not, got injured by saving a bantam rooster from a huge farm rooster, and the little snot antaganised the huge dude from the safety of my arms as he tried to get back and fight at the big gentle giant old english... well trying to protect the scrappy little snot, the big guy sent a sharp spur, long and deep into the pointer finger of my right hand, right down through everything to the bone. thats smarted, and swelled like the dickens, so can now imagine what a purposeful blow could do to a vulnerable weak area/spot on purpose (or that poor stupid bantam roo who was loose after the big guy and we were trying to save, as big guy was just stomping as to defend himself, but seems could have killed the little one if wanted to.

I am pretty new to all of this but I had 5 roosters at once... long story but .... the one that crowed was very aggressive. he almost got my eye once... I kept telling him that I was going to put him in the pot... but he didn't get the hint... so.... the pot he went... with all the others... I only had 4 chickenss.. and 5 roosters... I would only get 1 egg a day if I was lucky... the poor girls... Now my neighbor gave me a black beautiful rooster that he had to give away.. and this rooster is Ideal.... almost a blue black with a curly red top.... beautiful.. when I get a chance I will post some pics...

If the rooster is too aggressive.... he can hurt you or the chickens...get rid of him.
