Was so mad I nearly beat my roo to death.

It really disturbs me that people are so blase about "carrying a stick to hit their rooster" or "give him a kick across the pen" or "whack his head against the roost".

If anyone on this board saw another human do this to a dog, a cat, horse or another human - everyone would be outraged.

I am constantly amazed that it is OK and "even approved" to do this to a small bird.

Yep..its disturbing... kinda like beating up a defenseless toddler or somethig...
If you cant control your temper with an animal... then please do the right thing and cull it or re-home it. What a shame..

LEt's get over it. If yo don't like this thread, don't comment. This is bordering on harassing an OP.

Well I found that if my roos do this,I will kick pine shavings at them. Its funny, they act like' what the heck was that?" and try to come around the shaving shield, but I kick more and more til they give up.

The more the pot is stirred the darker the mess gets. The best way to deal with BS is not to. Cull the bird. Eat or not. Do it humanely and get it over with. Especially do not let it propogate more of it's kind.

Wow people, you go overboard a little I see. Me thinks you are all a little narrow minded and unwelcoming.
Let's revisit the situation. My husband, for some reason, loves this roo, thinks he's cool with his little top hat of feathers. I do all the work, cleaning, feeding, building them a palatial chicken palace that I dote upon my 29 hens and one demon roo. I feed them from birth, give them treats, spend more money on them than any sane person should on a chicken. But I do it because I work 50 hours a week in a stress filled health care field taking care of sick babies in NICU. My one destressor has been this winter taking care of my hens and spoiling them silly. Then one day I feel mud, muck, and whatever on my back and head because I was preoccupied with putting straw into my hens nest boxes. Sorry again if I offended anyone. Did I over react?????? Maybe, just thanking god that my 4 year old granddaughter didn't get it in the face. Do I wish him dead. Yes I do, I gave him several chances to rehabilitate. But you know what, he has run out of the way for the past several days. He met the alpha female that day and I am not going to bow down to a roo again.
And if any of you narrow minded people think differently, next time you take it on the back of your head and back from a roo and see if your attitude changes.

sounds like my situation. The chickens were my idea, they are my babies. But my husband loves my (formally) mean roo, I hated him and wished he would disappear (the rooster, not my husband,

) . Now, the rooster avoids all contact with humans, and I didn't have to eat him, either. Now I have 2 nice roosters and one indifferent, shamed rooster. I hope your rooster keeps his place, for his sake. I don't fault you for whatever action you take.

And they are little pit bull in a chicken costume sometimes!

Not every rooster is created equal but there are exceptions such as Game Fowl or breeds are known for their tendences to be aggressive.

As forgetful I may be, about bringing in a broom or stick handy, I don't want to keep having that on hand simply because a roo sees that you have nothing in your hands, he would take his chance. Uh-no.....I want to go in the coop and premises without having to worry all the time about myself being attacked or my daughter out there playing with the hens with or without brooms.
