In answer to the time and distance thing. For me travelling, it is 1 hour to Olympia, then 1 hour to Seattle. If I go south after Olympia, it is 1 hour to Longview, and then another hour to Portland. Vancouver is only a few minutes to Portland, so I think if someone lived off of the freeway, it could be a long drive. That said, if nobody speaks up from that area and says they plan on coming, it is a moot point.
I do think we should try to make this be a comfortable drive for Russ and his DW. So I vote for Renton, or even better Tukwilla or SeaTac. It will also cut a lot of non I-5 driving out for some. Kent area near the freeway would be great too or DesMoines near the freeway. All of those towns in the south have fingers that spread out for quite a distance. Wouldn't it be great if there were a map of places like this that you could just click on to find the info. Mapquest has done so much lately. I don't suppose they have anything like that in their nearby places part.
Voting: At this point, I would like my vote to reflect the following. Yes to anyplace Tukwilla, southward. No to anyplace north of that, or off of the I-5 more than a short drive. (Ie Bellevue, Alki, Burien or points north.
The reason that my vote is changed a bit. I am afraid that instead of accommodation to everyone, the vote could turn into greatest majority rules. I don't want to be a party to that happening, as I would like to make sure that everyone has a somewhat equal chance to come. To my mind the goal should be that nobody has to travel more than 2 1/2 hours to this event if possible. Granted it is not possible to do that for the entire state, but by placing the party as close to the center of the I-5 corridor as we can, All of Western Washington has a chance, and it puts the party close to both I-90 and Hwy12East to allow someone from the Eastside of Wa to think about attending.
That said, I am not the host of this party. Kim ultimately has my support on anything that she decides. If she wants it close to home, that is fine with me.
I just contacted Doug McCormick at 253-841-5447 or [email protected]. at the Puyallup Activities Center. They are available on both of the dates in February. Rental on Sunday is $45 per hour and with that you get an attendant who sets up the chairs and tables in advance, and the use of the kitchen. It accommodates 100 for sit down dinner or 300 in lecture seating (rows of chairs)
I am rural, down by Eatonville. It is 1/2 hour for me to get to an East-West freeway (512) and from that I can go I-5 or 405 so anything in the Renton - Kirkland area would work well. Puyallup would be even closer
. On the I-5 side Tacoma, Federal Way, or Seattle would work. Probably more expensive as you get closer to Seattle. As far as more off the freeway places, Enumclaw works for me as well.
As I said already, Christine and I drove as far north as Monroe for chicks (thanks Eagle) and as far south as Battle Ground for chickens. So I guess I am in no matter where it is, within reason. My DH is probably out even if it was in our back yard. He is just not into chickens. If we include children, my granddaughter (age 10) would love to come. My grandson (age 2) will NOT be coming.
Sorry, I don't have time to help locate a place right now. We are finishing off a large addition (about 900 sq. ft.) for our daughter, her DH, DD and DS. With the added work of sanding dry wall and everything else this entails, plus taking care of the grandchildren and cooking for everyone, I have no time.
We are nearing completion, thank goodness.
I can chip in $20 in January.
Edited to add: I think my son-in-law will come with me. He is a member of BYC and we went to the Tour 'D Coop in Portland together.

Don't worry about the cost!! you and your wife WILL be covered!!!!!! now if ya have 10 kids thats another thing
I called Renton. They DO NOT rent on Sundays!!! (kim and I can not make Saturdays)
I DON'T have any phone books for the south end. can anyone give me some numbers for places in Kent, Tukwilla, DesMoines or federal way ??? to call. Puyallup would work maybe.
Who would have thought that planning a get together would be so hard
The Problem is DISTANCE. Nobody wants to travel for two hours

I think "greatest majority rules" is the ONLY way too go ! It doesn't make sense to get a place in the north or the south and have only a third of the group show up. If the Majority picks Puyallup , kent or Federal Way then thats where it should be!!!!
It doesn't matter where it is located SOME people will NOT come!!!!! I don't think we can financially find a place (like in Seattle) that would be centerd for everyone

Your doing a great job keeping score can you please keep it up!
So NO farther north than Kirlkland ( we can afford that) or Puyallup to the south. (can afford that too) How does that sound???
Maybe we need to make two parties. A North and a South ???? What do ya think. ??? then we could ALL come together at a lake in the summer when the days are nicer and longer.
JUST REMEMBER, WE ALL BECAME FRIEND"S ON HERE BECAUSE OF ONE THING!! OUR LOVE FOR CHICKEN"S
My wife says we are ALL crazy, maybe so
I don't want to see anyone get HURT feelings because of where the party will be. Or even worse, stop posting on here because they are hurt or mad!!!!
Just FYI, there is a Grange not far from Granite Falls and Getchell Station. I have no idea what it would cost to get it but could try and find out if you want me to. Email me please if so.

Glad your coming. will look forward to meeting you and your family. PM kim (KMHUNTER) and tell her how much you can give. give what you are comfortable with. I think she figured about $10 to $20 a person. Some will be able to give a little more, some might not be able to give anything. Lots of people out of work and hurting money wise.
If anybody has sent Kim money, thats ok. BUT THE REST OF YOU, JUST CONTACT HER AND TELL HER WHAT YOU CAN GIVE!!! that way if the party doesn't pan out she doesn't have to try and return everyones $$$. If we need $$$ all of a sudden I can cover it and just get paid back later
