Washington Party will be held in Kirkland WA February 28th '10

Tailfeathers
I vote Snohomish or Maltby too BUT to try and be fair to ALL, I think Kirkland will be the farthest North we will have it. I think most people want it in the South end

Ron: Thank you for the generous offer, to spot the group, if we need it. I am going to PM Kim next.

We used to live in the Vancouver WA area. It took us between 2.5 and 3 hours each way, and it is about 2 to 2.5 hours north to Vancouver BC for me as long as traffic isn't horrible. We are located in Enumclaw which is slightly south and East of Downtown Tacoma. I know that there are a number of people that would find the North end more convenient, but I am concerned about the trend of members that are in the South end that don't seem to be able to afford travel as far. These ones are not going to be able to come if it is much more North of South Seattle. I would hate to make it go the other direction but we need to think about this development. I know of a grange out in Kent, But I will start looking in the Renton area today. Tukwila is a good option, but I think that we will be priced out of any facilities located there.

Weaveagarden I will add the Puyallup Activities Center to the list. Thank you for the option.

I will count the votes again as of today.

I will be there wherever it is as long as snow doesn't keep me here.

chookchick had a post on here last night (post #27) for the seattle park rentals website. I just spent an hour on there and talked to two people. Heres what I kind of picked out of the bunch (and there are lots of them) due to size and LOCATION (seattle)

Miller community center and South Park Community Center

I won't go into all the fees that make up the final Cost. They are ONLY open from noon to 5:00pm and NO Kitchen ( kitchen would be $40 per hour more.)

Final cost would be $340.00 for each place. we would have to be cleaned up and out by 5:00pm or its $40.00 more per hour

We can use microwaves to heat our food

Please either look at the website chookchick posted or type in these two and let me know what you think.

Ive looked at or called so many places, its getting hard to keep tract of whats what. my desk has papers all over it. Looks like I work from home

I have updated the facilities list with a number of places from in the Renton, and South Sound area. I am waiting on some of them for pricing. Most of the places I have contacted have been way too expensive for what we are doing. I still need to count the votes again.

Friendly disagreement here. Big smile to my lovely friend who is willing to debate this with me.

But I don't agree. This should be equitable but not necessarily equal.

Central is not Seattle first of all.... It is Tacoma or Olympia.
There are going to be more people in the greater population areas... So voting isn't necessarily an equitable arrangement.
On top of that, you have to remember that many people in the south end are not as comfortable traveling though the densely populated areas as those who live within 50 miles of Seattle.
Traveling distance should be a greater factor than wants... (ie: needs over wants)
Many who live south aren't as close to a highway as those that live in the Seattle area... So they may have 1/2 to 1 hour of driving just to get to I-5 Most people around the Seattle area are within 5 or 10 minutes of a freeway.
If everyone agrees that 2 hours isn't too bad, then it should include the possibility of increasing the driving of some to accommodate those who couldn't come otherwise.

For those in the Snohomish area, I believe Tacoma is 1 hour away. For those in Mossyrock, or Vancouver, it is 2 - 2 1/2 hours away. This is my point. Those in the north end can drive a little bit farther so that those who live a little bit farther away and South will be able to attend. If in Tacoma, those as far north as the Washington border could get there as easily as those in Vancouver Washington. (again, if there is someone from there that is paying attention, speak up please) ( And Russ, I would love if you would tell us how long it would take you and if I am estimating right.)

I'm really not trying to make a problem. I just know what it like to be someone outside the Hub of Seattle and not have the issues recognized. And before anybody assumes anything, I have lived a great deal of my adult life in and around Seattle, including the following (Seattle, Kent, Renton, Everett). So I do understand the issues of traveling both directions around there. I have also lived in Hoquiam, and other areas that are far away, like Clatskanie Oregon which is just across the border by Longview, Port Angeles, Brewster, Pasco, Odessa/ Lamona. So I have traveled often from places that are more remote and know that traveling on non-highways can be a bit of a burden at times.

I am hoping to just make it a little bit harder on some so that it isn't completely impossible for others. For me, I guess the goal is to have everyone who would really love to attend attending.

Thanks for hearing me out. Sorry to be a pain in the *@$%&! If no one agrees with me, then well and fine. I will give it up now. But I have a feeling there are others out there who do, but are just trying not to be the pain that I am at this moment.

edited for spelling errors that spellchecker didn't find, and also to say. I must admit I hadn't looked at the votes when I started debating this. Still happy I did, because it is a soap box issue for me...... But since the votes look like something closer to Tacoma is being considered, I guess I am beating a dead horse.... Sorry all!
