Washington Party will be held in Kirkland WA February 28th '10

Hmmm.......I take a day off this post and the whole pot-luck idea has become, dare I say complicated. I don't want anyone to take offence, I am just putting in my 2 cents worth.

First, two parties means extra work and extra expense. We have been looking for a reasonable space rental and now we want to rent twice?

Also, as soon as two parties were discussed, people started talking about going to both. Not that I care, but why then are we having two?

As for me, I would like to meet as many chicken lovers as possible, but I will not go to two parties to do it. I do not have that much time, money, or energy. (Old lady here

) I would be sincerely dissappointed if I only got to meet half the chicken lovers on this forum because the other half were at a different party.

Well, there it is. The other side of the discussion. Please don't stone me.

Don't worry - we are all still going to meet! We will just meet in the summer somewhere people who have to travel a long way can camp. We can also meet outside so we don't have less expense. With smaller groups the winter potlucks can be in smaller locations at lower cost.

I already knew that there was going to be a summer event. That was in the original plan.
What we were suppose to be working out is the bugs on the Feb. picnic.

Northend-Southend does it really matter?
If your going to go, you WILL go.

Maybe someone should set a date to have all the votes in by and on that following weekend we will know the talley?

I like alot of Ideas that have been presented but all for not if someone doesn't take the initiative to say yes or no on certain thing.
There has been so much put out there it almost seems as if were getting off subject.

Now if KMHUNTER wants to throw a party at her house and there are going to be 25+ people that's good to get a hall or a grange. Probably by her house as she will be setting up and tearing down.
I really don't think it would be fair to travel then set up and tear down then travel again?

Out of the kindness of your heart I really think that you have a good thing going here.

More or less it's the few of us that are talking about it, while everyone else is just waiting for the invite.
Something are better set in stone sooner than later.......Time off, babysitters, expenses......

The greater Seattle area was picked because the people originally interested in a get together were mostly from that area. Those people, myself included, invited everyone in the Washingtonian board to come on out if they were able to do so. The plan was to have it at Kim's house. The response was overwhelming and it quickly looked like there would be too many people to host it at Kim's so we started looking around for another venue. I think what we should do, is what were going to do to begin with.

My suggestion:
By Christmas, everyone that can make someplace in the greater seattle area, contact Kim and let her know you will be attending and who you will be bringing, so she can get a head count. If that number is a number she can host at her house we will have it there. And no more invites (unless there is more room at her house) will be put out there. If that number is greater than what she can host, we will rent a hall, and invites will stay open.

If the people who are too far away from the greater seattle area would like to host a different party, then they should do so, but it shouldn't get in the way of this one.

My two cents.

Well said, Mike. We could all discuss this to death and still not know what is going on. Will someone please stand up and make a decision, or at the very least narrow it down some?

Let me say one more time, I am not in favor of having two locations. I do not think we have enough people coming to justify that.

For my part the only reason the place came into play at all was because there was talk of it no longer being a Kim hosted party, but a collaborative one. At that point having it be central seemed important. But I totally agree that having a single party that everyone goes to is the best idea.

That said. Is there any reason why a second party couldn't be planned at a later date by the southend people. They don't have to be in competition. And it is a way for some people who can't make it up north of Seattle easily to participate and get acquainted. An open invitation can be issued to whomever wants to attend either.

I am totally on board with it being given wherever Kim wants to give it. And am sorry if I got excited and complicated an originally great idea. One of my soapbox topics as I stated this idea that everything has to be centered in Seattle or north or it can't be "good enough". Sorry, but that is often the situation, and it stinks! Oops

there I go again up on that rickety old box. Still love all of you northerners!

But I think it isn't such a bad idea for some of those living elsewhere to start planning something else. It is a long time between February and July or August. No reason not to if there is interest. But the two really have nothing to do with each other, so I will be quiet and lets just make a decision already and do it!

OK I have to agree that it isn't practical to have 2 parties. At this time we only have about 15 people voting. I would estimate that at this time the group is about 30 people. I don't think that there are enough people in the South to have a separate party that will be affordable. I am in Enumclaw (Still in King County), and I am still too far North and east of the freeways to host a party, so that anyone south of Chehalis is going to be able to travel anymore affordable, than to anywhere else in the state. So enough said by me.

I am going to make a decision: KIRKLAND CENTER. The center that Kim said that we can get for 45 hour. I have looked and looked elsewhere and this is the most central and affordable of all the places. I hope that we can make the decision in the next day or two.

Does anyone want to second that?

Let’s keep this as simple as possible. Christina
