Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Oh I want to buy a whole goat this year and a whole pig, and another 1/4 cow by fall. We LOVE meat. Definitely carnivores here.

So, are you looking for live just for butchering for the freezer? There's a big animal auction over near Chehalis where you can get some fairly decent animals. We shall have (we think) some extra goats in the spring. Not enough freezer space.

Quote: Terrifying! It didn't see me, flew OVER my head (maybe 4' above me) and landed 8-10' away from me ON my flock of chickens. Lovely.

I have a confession to make, and this is going to make me sound like even more of a fruit cake because I want chickens so bad. BUT, I am terribly frightened by birds!!!!! Any birds that fly make me scream and run for cover. I can stand spiders and snakes, but BIRDS scare the crud outta me!!! I am hoping my dog will keep the flying ones out of our yard!!!

I am the only jerk allowed on this forum.

The rest of you are required to be nice at all times.

OK, from now on, you can be the jerk! But I will maintain my profile pic until I can replace it with pictures of my soon-to-be chicks!

We're talking about getting a couple goats for milk and blackberry/rose mowing duties. I really need to get some fencing up. If I get that done, making a shelter will go quick. There is spot that the previous owner of this place had flattened. It gets rather wet in winter with a few inches of water in some spots. In summer it stays green. Last year it was almost totally covered with just birdsfoot trefoil. I think it might make a good 1/4 acre summer pasture. I want to fence off some of the yard as pasture, too. It's mixed grasses, clover, trefoil, and anything else that grows here like roses. I've pretty much eliminated the lupine in most areas. I wouldn't put any animals in areas with it until I'm sure it's gone.

You know some chickens fly, right? :-) My leghorn and BCM are the worst (or best?). My BSL can also fly though.

I was in my front yard working on their new nest box (my JG's rear end won't even fit in our current boxes) and I could not get Blanche and Halle to stay in the back yard. They kept flying into the front yard to be with me. They *never* leave the back yard. They must really love me

(<---this looks a little like Blanche)

I've never seen the JG or BO leave the ground. Too big and dense.

TacomaFarms, you aren't responsible for my ignorance and high-flying temper. You need to stay on the BYC thread!! My apologies for offending everybody. My words were uncalled for.

On a side note...

I have decided to start another Washington thread titled "Washingtonian Cast-Offs" for the imperfectionists. All are welcome to hang out with my attitude having butt. I understand I can be more than some people want to handle.

Itsren, if you are still comfortable with your chicks going to my home, I am still happy to take them.
You know the nice thing about this forum? We're nice people and that goes for you too. Everybody stresses, so as they use to say in days gone by, chill. No blood, no foul (or chicken, yep pun intended). Happy to see your back. Hugs

This'll be therapy, then. You can't possibly be scared when cute baby chicks fly up onto you to say hello!

ChickAudie, if you want to contact Itsren about the chicks, you might have to PM her. It seems as though she's not coming back to our thread.

So we have been microwave free in this house for about 6 months now and I'm amazed and impressed that the adjustment wasn't hard at all! I LOVE the way my food tastes when it hasn't been "nuked". Anyone else microwave free?
