Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My chickens are enjoying their cracked corn. I went to dels farm supply, they don't know when they'll get chicks in. Was going to get whole corn but that was a dollar more for a 40 lb bag then it is to get a 50 lb bag of cracked corn. The lady there was great and told me the price difference when i asked for the whole corn. She saved me a dollar and got me 10 more lbs of feed. It's just a treat for the chickens. I am not sure how good corn is for them though.
I like taking a handful out to them and letting them eat it right from my hand.

DOn't use it often, if at all. It's not good for them. High protein treats are much healthier for them, such as meal worms, black oil sunflower seeds, etc

they also get black sunflower seeds, millet, oats, black rice, split peas (green and yellow)..................... I'm buying the stuff for "scratch" just not buying "scratch" from dels because last time i got it there i opened it and it was expensive cracked corn is all.
My ducks love corn and will get it as a big part of their diet though. because corn fed duck is supposed to taste really good.

This is why they won't let you throw rice at weddings.

that is actually a myth. The reason you don't throw rice at weddings is because it's really hard to clean up and can cause people to slip and fall. Bird seed is a lot easier to sweep up.
Rice takes a high temp to cook it for a long period of time. Black rice takes an hour simmering. My chickens are pooping it out long before an hour has passed. Plus it takes a LOT of water for rice to expand. Chickens don't actually drink that much water.
It's not like i'm giving them a lot of rice. Like 1/8th of a cup at most for over a week mixed into their grains to toss on the ground. It's just for the antioxidants and because they love it.

*does touchdown dance in living room*

I just got off the phone with Becky at Wilco in the harbor and MY CHICKS ARE IN RESERVE!!!!
I can't remember when I have been this excited! It can't be healthy!! FRIDAY BABY!!!!! I saved room for one more (and Itsren's science experiments ;0), because I know I won't be able to help it if say,a certain Travis person is able to have Splash Orpington babies, no pressure.
I was browsing the broody boxes page and found that people were using dog kennels! I have an extra large one that's been sitting since we left my mom's place. Go-go-gadget utilization!!
