Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

If you were up to it. I know it's A LOT of work with these guys! I can just rest assured that anybody who has a splash orp baby, it will be well loved <3
They were my favorite when I first started looking into owning chickens. And the first breed I looked for, but sadly could never find any.

Now that I've order the chicks, I can focus on other things, like............................ finding a SO HEN for TurtlePower!!

LOLOLOL!!!!!

Hahahaha. The chicks itsren is hatching will be Blue with a little leakage from the hen's color. So the Buff orp chicks will be Blue with maybe a hint of gold on the hackles. I am not continuing with the Orps in the future. Most of my laying flock will be Plymouth Rocks and Ameruacana/EE birds. Just love their temperament too much. If I was you, and wanted a Splash colored bird, I would find a local breeder of any breed that has a BBS pen. Now of course with my own hatching I may get a Blue Orp or 2. Then breeding them back to Pig Pen will give my 50% Blue and 50% Splash chicks. So next year I could have a Splash bird or 2?

They sound like they will be bluetiful!

It wasn't really an experiment.   They were trying to get rid of the pigeons.  They were pooping all over the outdoor toys and swings.    They finally after 2 years hired an exterminator to come catch/kill all the pigeons.

Oh, I misunderstood! I was picturing all the little kids taking notes to see if the rice would kill the birds. Makes more sense now.

No they only put the rice out after school, but it backfired on them attracting more pigeons and causing them to stay/nest there. It was horrible too. Walk under the covered area and you'd get pooped on. Just gross. parents were complaining because their kids were getting pigeon poop on their clothes, in their hair, and all over their hands (off the toys and from falling on the ground).

Ditto! We sometimes buy GF bread and do fine with it, but usually the things I make from fresh, whole foods ingredients are the best. Rainmom do you have a vitamix? We love ours! It's incredibly helpful for whole food eating.

no vitamix here. Thought about it, but I have:
a cuisinart food processor, (20 year warranty on motor)
a heavy duty beehive blender, (grinds coffee beans perfectly!)
a champion juicer, (makes perfect juice, and also nut butters
a Kitchenaid mixer
an ice cream maker (25 minute ice cream)
toaster oven (used tonight for grass-fed hot dogs) and
a stainless steel rice cooker

so, could not justify the add'l expense to get yet another appliance, ya know?
Most GF breads are very good these days. You should have tasted the crap they made 10 years ago- horrid! Now there's all these nice soft, squishy buns and soft chewy cookies. The stuff they used to have was like eating cardboard or sand.
Q: Did you say you are allergic to eggs?

i don't have any kids my friends out here do. One moved. Can ya guess why? LOL It's just so gross over there. I live so close to the school yet refused to take my nieces over there to play in summer while there were pigeons there.

I think if i had a child going to that school i would have rounded up as many parents as i could to hit the school board meeting and complain.

I can't wait for you to come and visit. Just want to warn you that I do not live in a big fancy house. We live in a house built into a barn and I act as such lol. That whole saying "you didn't grow up in a barn did you" my kids can say yes and walk away from an open door that should be closed! I am a redneck country girl born to city folk. You may want to wear mud shoes of some sort as there is chicken poo EVERYWHERE.

I agree, I hate that there are no emoticons when I am posting from my phone. I am not cool enough to have an IPhone!

When we found our property we are on, we looked for acreage with forest for paintball, the house was just an added bonus.

And I am by no means cool, I wanted the Iphones so I could track the whereabouts of my teen boys anytime. Believe me, I hate the $300 a month bill for 4 of them.

You should contact kidcody here on BYC. She is an English Orp breeder in WA. She has all colors including cool project colors like Jubilee. She is not cheap though, but her birds are some of the best in the country.
